Author Interview
Tell me about yourself. Where are you from?
SH: I am a British Australian who grew up on the northern beaches of Australia before marrying my husband who was Navy when we were both 18 and being posted all over Australia and overseas.
What genre do you read? Who's an author you read? Name your top 5 authors.
SH: I read mostly Gay Romance and love Kindle Alexander, CJ Bishop, Ella Frank, Christa Tomlinson and Sloane Kennedy.
What book are you reading right now, and what do you like about it?
SH: The Sargent Series by Christa Tomlinson. I adore her characters and how they interact.
Favorite sports.
SH: Walking.
Favorite thing about your state you live in.
SH: Our home is in the sunny state of Queensland in a rural village which is peaceful and full of wildlife. At the moment we are full time travelers in our caravan/rv and have been for 4 years.
How long have you been writing?
SH: Since forever but published first book in 2011.
What is your writing process like? Are you more of a plotter or a pantser?
Pantser.
SH: I don't have a word count, I let stories unfold at their own pace.
How did you come up with the ideas for your series?
SH: This book is a standalone, one off.
How do you celebrate finishing a book?
SH: Lunch out somewhere.
What would you tell a writer who is just starting out? What program do you use for writing? What advice would you give to a writer working on their first book? What’s your writing software of choice?
SH: I use Word and advice for new writers would be…let the story unfold naturally, Don't try and meet a word count and fill with 'fluff.'
How do you organize everything and finding the time to sit down and write?
SH: I'm retired so have a great deal of spare time in the afternoon and night. We explore during the mornings and early afternoons.
As an author, what would you choose as your spirit animal?
SH: Dog. People say I am very caring and patient but I have my limits.
Who has been the biggest supporter of your writing?
SH: My proof reader, Leanne Rogers, who is extremely pedantic and calls it as it is. She is my very best friend and has been since we met in 2012. My husband is also a huge supporter in his own quiet way, my sister-Jane, and daughter-in-law, Colleen.
How do you name your characters?
SH: Haha, lucky dip. I literally just pull them out of thin air and know I have used names many times over BUT, each book is it's own story and there are more than one James, Mary, John, and Fred in the world.
Can you describe a typical day in your writing life?
SH: I usually start after doing blog posts…about 3/4pm in the afternoon, write for 4 hours and then knit.

About the Author
I’m an Australian author who writes in a variety of genres,
including Western romance, historical romance, Gay Romance, and contemporary
romance. I also have a Thriller Murder/Mystery, children’s, non-fiction
and young adult.
I have published over 60 books and novellas, many of which feature strong,
independent heroines and rugged, alpha male heroes. Some of my popular series
include the Outback Australia series and The Carter Brothers series.
My books are known for their well-researched historical details and vivid
descriptions of the Australian landscape.
