Review: Sly "Bullhorn" Brodsky, Offensive Line

For this review, I chose Sly "Bullhorn" Brodsky, Offensive Line by Jean C. Joachim in the First and Ten Series (Book #5).

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Sly “Bullhorn” Brodsky wished winning the heart of Samantha Drake was as easy as protecting his quarterback. A top offensive lineman in the NFL, Bull tried to live down his rep as a womanizer. Locker room chatter had elevated him to the level of “player” in more than football. But Samantha Drake, dark-haired, stunning sister of a teammate, didn’t want to have anything to do with him. Or did she?
On his best behavior, Bull pulled out all the stops to woo the reluctant beauty. He was making progress until a woman from his past reappeared. Tiffany, the one woman who broke his heart, is in trouble. Is Bull the only man who can help?
Samantha is overcoming her doubts about Bull until Tiffany arrives. Is the blonde really in hot water or does she just want another chance with the man she discarded?
Enjoy the return of your favorite First & Ten characters in this book, too. Surprises, twists, and football action scenes will keep you turning the pages.

I love this series.  Jean did it again.  Very well written and the characters flowed off of the pages.  Once again, I could not stop reading (unless I had to).

Sly and Sam have met through her brother and fellow team mate, but he does not approve of them being together.  I think her brother did not see the real Sly that Sam saw.

My favorite part of this book (besides the end) was the Thanksgiving dinner where all the team mates and their family and friends gather to be thankful for what they have.  I read this book right before Thanksgiving so it was a perfect reminder what I have to be thankful for.

I hope there are more books in this series.

Review: My Kind of Wonderful

For this review, I chose My Kind of Wonderful by Jill Shalvis.

I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchanged for a honest review.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
UNEXPECTED AND UNDENIABLE...

Bailey Moore has an agenda: skiing in the Rockies, exploring castles in Europe, ballroom dancing in Argentina. Now that she has a second lease on life, she's determined not to miss a thing. What she doesn't realize is that item #1 comes with a six-foot-one ski god hot enough to melt a polar ice cap. She doesn't want to miss out on him either, but Hudson Kincaid isn't the type of guy to love and let go. And as gorgeous as Cedar Ridge is, she's not planning to stick around.

As head of ski patrol at his family's resort, Hud thinks he's seen it all. But never has he run into someone like Bailey. She might look delicate, but her attitude is all firecracker. And her infectious joy touches something deep within him that he's been missing far too long. Now he'll just have to convince Bailey to take a chance on her biggest adventure yet . . . something rare and all kinds of wonderful.

I have read the first book in the Cedar Ridge series and I knew I would love this book.  The first book is called Second Chance Summer.

Hudson takes care of those around him, but all he does is work as a cop and in charge of the Search and Rescue team.  He feels guilt about his mom's illness and about his twin brother's leaving.  When will Hudson allow love in his life?

Bailey has been through so much.  For 10 years, Bailey battled for her life.  She wants more than anything passion that knocks you up against the wall.  She takes a job to paint a mural on the weekends while working during the week as a graphic designer.  Will Bailey find her passion?

I can not wait to read book #3, Nobody But You, about Hudson's Twin brother, Jacob.

Review: A SEAL Forever

For this review, I chose A SEAL Forever by Anne Elizabeth.

I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchanged for a honest review.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Special Operator Declan Smith was a dedicated U.S. Navy SEAL, a known player, and daredevil who loved pushing the limits. But on his last mission, an IED leaves him injured and angry as hell—and it changes everything.

When a loud crash disturbs his neighbor, Maura Maxwell, she assumes the sailor next door is up to his usual bad behavior. But the man she finds covered in glass is far from the cocky ladies' man she'd grown to tolerate. Lying before her is a man fighting to rediscover his place in the world—and he can't do it alone.

This book is in the West Coast Navy SEALs series.  This is Book #4.  I hope I have the names of the first 3 books below correct.  I was a little confused with the earlier books.

Book #1- A SEAL at Heart.
Book #2- Once a SEAL
Book #3- The Kiss of a SEAL

Maura Maxwell lives next door to SEAL Declan Smith.   Maura is shy.  She is a Parkour Instructor.  Both Declan and Maura have a lot in common, but her shyness keeps getting in the way until one fateful day.  I am not going to say what because it is not in the description, but it is BIG.

Maura does not give up on Declan when he returns home injured.  Declan learns to lean on Maura.  When you need help, it is hard to say it, but those around us want to help.  Declan learns this about Maura.  His whole SEAL Team is there to help him through this new transition in his life.

This was my first book I have read by this author.  I want to read the first 3 books in this series and other books.

Review: Desert Heat

For this review, I chose Desert Heat by P.H. Turner.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Navajo Witchery. Human Treachery.

Social worker Jordan Bia finds a child who escaped her captors and a life in the sex trade, but four other girls from her small Mexican village were not so lucky. Smugglers hide their human cargo in the hoodoos of a remote canyon on the reservation—a place the Navajo shun, fearful of the witches who practice their black rituals and feast on the dark energy of evil. Mysterious rites, omens of death, and bodies litter the canyon.

When she meets Navajo police officer Sam Tohee, sparks fly fueled by the danger of hunting men who buy and sell little girls. Techno savvy Jordan plots to trap the smugglers and free the rest of the children, but unless she and Sam can find the power to defeat the witches she may not live long enough to save the girls.

This is the second book in The Nation Series.  Once again, I was intrigued by the description of this book.  One thing I love that this book is full with a lot. I love the mystery in it.  Romance.  Murder.  Suspense.  Navajo Legend.  Human Trafficing.

Jordan is a social worker and she finds a child, who escaped her captors and from the sex trade.  Sam is a Navajo Cop.

Review: Backwards Christmas

For this review, I chose Backwards Christmas by Brooke Williams.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Local tour guide Noelle Richards loves everything Backwards Christmas has to offer in South Pole, Alaska. She gets wrapped up in the upside down trees, taking presents TO Santa Clause and all the festivities. Sled dog trainer Chris Furst, on the other hand, approaches the holiday with nothing but skepticism. When their history bubbles into the present, their difference of opinion comes to a head. When Chris gets himself into a dangerous situation in the snow, Noelle and the hope of Christ are his only hope for redemption

Noelle Richardson loves Christmas.  Her hometown of South Pole, Alaska does everything with Christmas backwards.  Chris Furst hates everything about Christmas.  His reason for him hating everything Christmas is nothing he took lightly.  It changed everything in his life- how he looks at everything.

This was a quick read.  Noelle is a sweet woman, who loves her hometown and Christmas.  Her love for Jesus is even bigger.  She tells us readers the true meaning of Christmas.  I agree with her completely, but a Backwards Christmas is not something I have done and I would not want to.  It was nice to read about how things are done differently in South Pole, Alaska.

Review: Dangerous Love, Lost and Found

For this review, I chose Dangerous Love, Lost and Found by Jean C. Joachim.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
With danger lurking around any corner, Eden Wyatt, CIA covert operative, traveled solo. Hopping from one brief affair to the next, she’d be damned if she’d get a guy killed for loving her. But a chance meeting with a sexy, smart Major on New Year’s Eve rattled her resolve.
Hunted by assassins, Eden had forgotten how to trust. Wary, ever on the alert, the stunning woman, ready to kill or be killed, knew what she wanted. Would she dare break her own rules for Major Tom Davis?
Barreling through her defenses, Major Davis insisted on playing his own game. A man used to giving orders, not taking them, he refused to accept her terms. Would Eden put herself in the hands of those who wanted her dead, for love? Or would she kiss happiness goodbye and disappear back into her precarious life of running and hiding?

This is book #2 of the Love & Found series.  The first book is Love, Lost, and Found.  I could not put this book down.  Once again, it grabbed me from the first page until I was done with it.  I love when a romance book has some aspect of suspense or mystery.

Eden Wyatt is a CIA covert operative.  Tom Davis is a Major with the Marines.  They meet on New Year's Eve and sparks fly.  This book definitely had a lot of action and suspense surrounding Eden.  How can Tom and Eden have a life together if her life is in danger?  Will Eden be safe?  Will they be together?

Great book!  I hope there is more books in this series.

Review: Clean Sweep

For this review, I chose Clean Sweep: Venom Series #1 by V.L. Locey.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Fiery, flame-haired Jane Bratkowski is catapulted from a small college town to Philadelphia to become head coach of a new women’s hockey team, The Venom. It’s a life-changing opportunity, a dream come true until – in a cruel twist of fate that could turn into a nightmare – she comes face to face with her ex-husband Tore Ahlberg, the Wildcats' head of European Scouting.

Suddenly, Jane’s faced with more challenges than she bargained for: Will she let him distract her -- and derail her big chance to coach pro hockey? Can she build a team of relatively inexperienced, irrepressible young women into champions? Can she and Tore triumph over the gut-wrenching tragedy that ripped them apart -- or will the shocking truth of their passionate past threaten to destroy them once again?

I was sad to see the Wildcats series to be finished, but I was looking forward to The Venom series.  I have not read a book or series based on a female sport team.  This is book #1 of the new series.  Book #2 is Twirly Girl.

Jane Bratkowski meets the owner of The Venom when it is pouring down rain.  I could see Jane soaking wet.  Jane is offered the position of head coach for The Venom.  She finds out that her ex-husband is working for the Wildcats as their head of European Scouting.  The history between them is omg.   I do not want to give anything away.  It is a tragedy that torn them apart.

I am looking forward to Book #2, Twirly Girl.  I hope this series is as long as the Wildcats series.

Review: Love, Lost, and Found

For this review, I chose Love, Lost, and Found by Jean C. Joachim and Ben Tanner.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
What do a Marine who received a “Dear John” letter and a journalist who dumped her cheating fiancé have in common? Nothing, outside of being heartbroken over lost love. But when they accidentally end up next to each other jetting to a Caribbean paradise, they do share one thing: mutual attraction. Friendship between Tara Mason and Sergeant Mick Peterson grows quickly through a few dates on St. Thomas. An argument coupled with a blunder strand them on a small deserted Caribbean island.
In the midst of nothing but sand and water, possible starvation leading to death, old wounds heal. While working together to survive, Mick and Tara fall in love. Love found in their own private Eden is soon challenged in life-threatening ways when they return to the mainland. Long separations, danger and loneliness test their devotion. Is the love they’ve found strong enough to withstand what life throws at them?

This is the first book in the Lost & Found series.  The second book is called Dangerous, Love, Lust, and Found.  I would an island to be alone with my husband.

Great book!!  I could not put this book down.  It grabbed me from the first page until I was done with it.  I am beginning to love when a romance book has some aspect of suspense or mystery.

Tara Mason finds her fiance cheating on her.  She decides that she has to get away on her ex-fiance's dime.  Tara is sitting beside an guy that is rude, disgusting, etc.  The Air Marshall switches seats with her and she is sitting beside Christopher "Mick" Peterson, who is on leave from the Marines.

If Tara did not give up her seat to someone else (must read to find out who and why), and the switch seats did not happen, she would not have met Mick.

I hope there is more than 2 books in this series.  Love this series so far!

Hi Book Lovers

Hi Book Readers!!!  I thought I would check in with you all.  I have a few new ideas I am working on, but I need my reviews to slow down a little bit and that will happen in the next few weeks.

I want to review more children books with my kids.  Ethan enjoyed the last children's book we reviewed together.  I am on hold for a few children's books for the ebooks with audio.

I want to do Waiting on Wednesday posts more frequently.  It will be my way to highlight a book and the author that is coming out soon.  I also want to do more Thursday's Thought.  I have an idea for a new weekly post, but not sure what day of the week it will be.  It won't be every week.  It has to do with my TBR List in Goodreads.

I am also looking for more Blog Tours and Release Day Blitz to join in.  I want to have another way to highlight a book and the author.

I am working on a Best of 2015 post.  I am not sure when I want to post it, but sometime before the end of the year.

I am working on a new header for my blog, too.  I had an idea, but it turned out that can not be done because of the website not working on my laptop.  So, I need to come up with a new idea.  Any thoughts for my new header?

Happy Reading!

Review: Secret Sisters

For this review, I chose Secret Sisters by Jayne Ann Krentz, which is my first book I have read by this author.

I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchanged for a honest review.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
No one does romantic suspense better than Jayne Ann Krentz. Now, the New York Times bestselling author of Trust No Oneand River Road delivers a novel that twists and turns into a read that will leave you breathless.

Madeline and Daphne were once as close as sisters—until a secret tore them apart. Now it might take them to their graves.

They knew his name, the man who tried to brutally attack twelve-year-old Madeline in her grandmother's hotel. They thought they knew his fate. He wouldn't be bothering them anymore...ever. Still their lives would never be the same.

Madeline has returned to Washington after her grandmother's mysterious death. And at the old, abandoned hotel—a place she never wanted to see again—a dying man’s last words convey a warning: the secrets she and Daphne believed buried forever have been discovered.

Now, after almost two decades, Madeline and Daphne will be reunited in friendship and in fear. Unable to trust the local police, Madeline summons Jack Rayner, the hotel chain’s new security expert. Despite the secrets and mysteries that surround him, Jack is the only one she trusts...and wants.

Jack is no good at relationships but he does possess a specific skill set that includes a profoundly intimate understanding of warped and dangerous minds. With the assistance of Jack's brother, Abe, a high-tech magician, the four of them will form an uneasy alliance against a killer who will stop at nothing to hide the truth....

This is my first book I have read by Jayne Ann Krentz and I want to read more from this author.  I love to read new to me authors.

Madeline and Daphne are reunited because of a major event that happened when they were kids.  Madeline has to return to the island that her and her grandmother used to live.  Her grandmother passed away and Madeline needs to get their old hotel ready to sale, but people do not want her back.  Her grandmother hired a security firm, which I give credit for the protection that Madeline needed to her grandmother.  Without this security firm, things could be different.

I was not expecting so much from this book, but I am so glad I did.  All of this kept me guessing during the entire book.  Who did that?  Why?
Mystery
Suspense
Intense at times
Murder
Old Friends catching up
Intrigue
Explosion
Fires
Unexpected Twists

Review: Forever This Time

For this review, I chose Forever This Time by Maggie McGinnis, which is the first book I read by this author.

I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchanged for a honest review.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Forever This Time is the story of Josie Kendrew, who returns to her tiny Vermont hometown after ten years' absence when her father has a stroke, and Ethan Miller, her jilted high school sweetheart, who's taken her place as the CFO of the Kendrew family business: running Snowflake Village—a "Santa's Village"—style amusement park.

Josie, now a successful therapist with a Boston practice, isn't sure how she feels about being back in Echo Lake. In some ways, things have changed a lot; Ethan's got an MBA, seems to have something going with Molly, her childhood best friend, and he even owns the beautiful Victorian they'd always talked about buying together. But in other ways, the place is exactly the same, with reminders of the heartbreak that drove Josie away lurking around every corner. When Josie's "Little Sister" Avery died of cancer at the age of ten, the grief nearly destroyed her, and ultimately inspired her choice of career. It also caused a hurt so deep she knew she couldn't stay in Echo Lake, surrounded by memories. And she's not going to stay now; as soon as her dad's health improves, she's headed right back to Boston, to her therapy practice and her quiet apartment. To her lonely, safe life.

As for Ethan, he's not all that pleased to see the woman he once loved. It took a long time to pick up the pieces Josie left behind, he's proud of the work he's done to bring Snowflake Village into the 21st century, and he's worried that if Josie finds out about his project to honor Avery's memory, she'll get the wrong idea. He's not planning to make it easy for Josie to come back, and he's not going to pretend that all is forgiven. They can't just pick up where they left off… right?

This is the first book in the Echo Lake series.  Book #2 is called Heart Like Mine.  There is also a book that is before this book.  It is called Snowflake Wishes (#.5).  This is my first book by this author, but it will not be my last.  I want to read the other books in this series.

The one quote that stood out to me in this book was said by Ike:
"Where does your heart live?" (Kindle app 91%)

When you find love or think you found love, this quote is something I wished I would have thought about.  My heart lives with my husband and children.

Josie Kendrew has to return home because of her dad's stroke.  She has not been home (Echo Lake, Vermont) for 10 years when she was 18 years old.  She left behind a lot of hurt people, but she had reasons to do what she did.  Josie left behind her parents, her best friend, and her ex-fiance, who she could not marry.  Her ex-fiance, Ethan Miller, is still in town and working for her dad at the family business.  What will Ethan do when he sees Josie?  Have things changed since Josie left?  Josie has to find out where her heart lives.  In Boston?  In her hometown where her first love is?

Great book!  Very well written.

Megan Palmer works in a bookstore and finds her passion in life through reading steamy romance novels. Her brief affair with a man she later found out was married has left her damaged, until she meets the handsome SEAL, who stands ready to open her world and give her things she’s only dreamed.

On a skiing trip, Rory suffers a possible career-ending injury and also comes face to face with a past he never knew of, and a family who had abandoned him. His relationship with Megan is tested to the breaking point as Rory wades through the dark waters of recovery and whether or not he can live without the life he loves. A home-grown terrorist cell forces his hand and he discovers his true purpose.

Rory Kennedy has spent his childhood being raised in foster care and being in and out of trouble.  He finally has found a place where he feels he belongs, The SEAL Team 3.  Megan Palmer finds her passion when she is reading romance books.  After her brief affair with a married man, Megan needs to find that confidence she once had.

Once again, we have

Review: Shower in the Rain

For this review, I chose Shower in the Rain by Brooke Williams.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
It's a rainy day...what's a kid to do? Play outside in the rain of course! Mom is usually willing to enjoy the fun, but today, she hasn't even showered yet. When her daughter persists, mom gives in and simply showers in the rain! Join in on the fun any mom can have by going back to being a kid at heart with this whimsical story about a mom trying to handle it all and a child just trying to have a good morning in the rain!

This is my first children's book that I have reviewed, but I would love to review more.  It is also my first children's book I have read by Brooke Williams.  It is a cute little book with great illustrations.  Ethan and I read this book together.  Ethan is a first grader.

I asked Ethan a few questions about the book.
Do you want to play in the rain?  Ethan said yes.
Should I use soap in the rain?  Ethan said no, just play.
Would you read this again?  Ethan said yes.
Will you tell your friends?  Ethan said yes.

Review: Watercolors in the Rain

For this review, I chose Watercolors in the Rain by Kay Springsteen.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
When graphic designer Eve St. Aubin walks into an art exhibit and finds herself in a heated kiss with world renowned artist Kyle Sebastian, her memories whisk her back to the summer they’d shared five years earlier. He’d been her mentor in more ways than one… until he left without a word. Now she has nothing to say to him… or at least that’s what she keeps telling herself.

When he met Eve, Kyle’s career had been in the tank. Lighting the fuse on her talent had rekindled his own artistic ability. Loving her, watching her blossom as a woman had inspired him to new heights. He'd had to let her go back then, but he always knew he'd see her again. Now that he has, he's not prepared for the edgy woman she’s become, nor did he expect he'd still be in love with her.

When explanations aren’t that simple, and no common ground seems to be had, how will they overcome their past to create a future? Or can they?

I could not put this book down.  Eve goes to an art gallery for a show, but she did not ask her friend who's show it was.  It turned out that she knows the artist, Kyle Sebastian.  Eve leaves the gallery not long after talking with Kyle.  They met 5 years ago on an Island.  Their attraction was seem by a lot of people.  I fell in love with the way Kyle and Eve got to know one another.  They fell in love on that island and now 5 years later their love is still strong as ever.

Another great book by Kay Springsteen!!

Thursday's Thought: Why do you love to read?

Welcome to Thursday's Thought!!

Why do you love to read?

To me reading is a way to forget all of the stresses of your life.  It transports you to a small town in Montana or where ever the book takes you.  It helps me forget the health issues that my daughter and I have while I am reading a book.  I have read a lot more this year than last year, but I am now reviewing more than I have in the last several years. Reading is my time to myself.  A way to help me deal with everything around me.

Happy Reading!

Review: Dandelions on the Road

For this review, I chose Dandelions on the Road by Brooke Williams.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:

Twelve men…one woman…plenty of dandelions. Eva Merida has her life in order. She loves her job at the Furry Friends Rescue League and has a loving, supportive family. But she’s still missing that one special person to stand by her side. When she comes in third place on the local TV version of “The Bachelor,” entitled Accept this Dandelion, she nearly loses all hope for romance. Fortunately, the TV station decides to do a second season of the dating show…and they name Eva as the Bachelorette! With a plethora of dating mishaps recorded for TV, Eva finds herself falling for several men at once…including the show’s host. Will she find love at last or simply embarrass herself in front of the entire city?

Eva Merida has her dream job, but she is missing the one thing she has always wanted- a man to share her life with and a family of her own.  Eva is the sweetest person one can meet.  Her love of animals is contiguous to those around her.  Eva was on the first season of the dating show called Accept this Dandelion where we met Ben and Renee.  She is now the Bachelorette for the second season, but they are taking the show on the road and renamed it Dandelions on the Road.  This is a sweet book about finding love.  Eva needs to look what is in front of her the whole time!!  I am looking forward to any more books in this series.

Renewal
by Reana Malori

Erica Atkins held a long stemmed wine glass in her hand as she stared into the dying light of the fireplace. It was long past the time when her husband of five years would normally arrive home from work. No call. No text. Nothing. It was as if she no longer mattered. The courtesy of a telephone call was apparently simply too much for her to ask for. After five years of loving, laughter, and being each other’s best friend, something had changed.

Taking a sip of the dark red liquid, she paid no mind to the taste. The motion of lifting the glass was almost a reflex at this point. The mind-numbing pain in her soul was the only thing she could feel. Glancing over at the clock on the wall, she noted that it was well past ten o’clock at night. Her husband was supposed to be home by seven this evening. Before he left for work this morning, Todd had promised that he would be home for dinner tonight with her and Miles.

This time, he said, he would make sure that he left the office early. The half-hearted kiss he’d given her before he’d walked out the door had almost shattered her inside. Her heart felt the pain seconds before her brain could catch up. And that’s when she’d known that all her fears were true.

The tears she had cried earlier this evening had long since dried. The off-white tracks of the salty residue were still visible on her face. Eyes red and face turned down in sadness, she watched the dying flames in the fireplace and asked herself when they had lost their way. No matter how much she turned it over in her head, all she had left was this deep, irrevocable feeling of dread. She was losing her husband.
