Review: Weekend Fling

For this review, I chose Weekend Fling by Reana Malori.  This was my first book I read by this author.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
After a weekend fling that meant more than it was supposed to, Kara Thomas finds out she’s pregnant with Austin Delaney’s child. Kara doesn’t want to trap Austin into being a father, and she knows he has a very dangerous job as a Navy Seal. However, she realizes she made the wrong choice in not telling Austin about her pregnancy when he shows up at her door unexpectedly.

Austin doesn't know if he's ready to be a father, but he knows that he wants Kara. When he finds out she’s having his baby, he’s determined to make her his wife, in every sense of the word.

I read this book in one setting and I could not put it down.  I was hooked from the first chapter, but wished it was longer.  I loved the characters of Austin, Kara, Jack, Heather, and Lisa.  This was passionate, sweet, and had HOT chemistry.

A weekend fling with a man and Kara gets pregnant due to a condom mess up.  Should she tried harder to get ahold of Austin, the father to be?  Yes.  Kara knew he was a Navy Seal at the time they met.  Shouldn't she know that he would be called away for a long period of time?

During that weekend, there was a lot of passion and HOT chemistry.  I could tell there was more to this fling than just a fling.

Review: The Law of Love

For this review, I chose  The Law of Love by Ashli Rose.  This is Book #2 of Hearts on Fire.  I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Bree Kingston’s life isn’t all it seems to be. Everyone around her sees a beautiful, successful, confident woman who always goes after what she wants, including men. Hidden behind this façade, Bree has a secret that has been following her for three years. It has become Bree’s obsession, and it’s one that can cost her everything.
Ever since Louis Mercado came into Bree’s life things have been different. Always the perfectionist, Bree finds herself struggling to be everything Louis needs and more. Bree’s secret finds a way to push into the present and threatens to come between them. Will Bree’s dark secret overcome her, or will her and Louis prove that love conquers all?

We met Bree and Louis in Book #1, Hearts on Fire.  Bree is an attorney and Louis is in the NYPD.  He was in the calendar (Hunks in Uniform) with Gavin.  Bree's ex did a number on her self esteem and it took everything for her to overcome it.  Did she overcome her secret?  Did Louis find out her secret?

This book had HOT chemistry between Bree and Louis.  It was sweet story about love and overcoming your struggles for what you want.  It was romantic, too.  Louis loves Bree and would do anything for her.

I love how Ashli Rose brought in a real life crisis.  I do not want to say what it is because you need to read this book.  It is something that woman go through.  There were hints of Bree's secret throughout the book.  I wrote down what I thought it was and I was on the right track.

I am looking forward to Book #3.  I am hoping this book is on Bree's other sister, Elise.  I know there is a story there and I can not wait to read it.

Review: Sweet Love Remembered

For this review, I chose Sweet Love Remembered by Jean C. Joachim.  I have read other books by Jean and I loved them.  I knew I had to read this book, too.  I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
This is a short story.
The worst tragedy to befall parents is the loss of a child. Matt and Perri suffered that fate when their infant died of SIDS. Heartbreak, acrimony, and loss blew them apart. Matt went overseas with the Marines while Perri found a job in New York City.
Five years later they accidentally meet again. Old recriminations and accusations resurface. Can they stop bickering and fighting long enough to talk honestly? Can their pain reunite them or is the gap too wide to bridge?

Oh Boy!  What a sad story!  I kept thinking what if I was in Perri's shoes and lost an infant to SIDS.  What would I do?  I know this answer-fall apart.  I know that in my heart if I lost any of my kids, I would fall apart.  There is definitely a lot of emotions in this short story: Heartache, Grief, Forgiveness, Romance, and Love.

When you are faced with a loss or something you could not imagine going through, you have a choice to make.  Will this destroy you?  Or will it make you stronger?  I know everything my husband and I have gone through since our wedding day has made us stronger together.

I highly recommend this book and better bring the kleenex because you will need them.  This was a powerful story about loss and second chances.  Perri and her husband, Matt, divorced, but can they put everything aside to find that love that has not left?  I believe that their infant son, Mikey, brought them back together.

This book reminds me to hold on to love and never let go.  I wished this was a little longer.  I wanted to know more about their future holds.

Review: The Confection Connection

For this review, I chose The Confection Connection by Monica Tillery.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
After appearing on a popular reality cooking show, Carly Piper’s newly opened bakery is landing her in debt. Making the cakes for the celebrity wedding of the year might be the answer to all her troubles.

Problem is, her rival from the show, Michael Welch, is also pitching his bakery to the celebrity couple. When a misunderstanding leads the quirky bride to think they’re a couple, she wants to hire them both.

Stuck traveling together to keep up appearances, the pair finds themselves cozying up to the idea of making their fake relationship real. But a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity leaves these two wondering whether they have the right recipe for success after all. Can Michael and Carly create something lasting or is their love a half-baked proposal?

This is such a sweet story.  Carly and Michael met on a reality cooking show three years ago.  Carly could not stand him at all, but when they meet again and under a false opportunity, what will Carly do?  I love the loving couple that Rusty and his fiancee, Sequonia have together.  Sequonia wants a couple in love to make her wedding cake and groom's cake.  I have not heard of a groom's cake.  I do not think we had one at our wedding almost 19 years ago.

This sweet love story reminded me of falling in love with my husband all those years ago.  Don't let love pass you by!!

I can not wait to read Election Connection about Carly's best friend, Lily Ashton, and her congressman boyfriend!!

Review: Movie Lovers

For this review, I chose Movie Lovers by Jean C. Joachim.  This is book #4 in the Hollywood Hearts series.  I have read Red Carpet Romance (book #2), and Memories of Love (Book #3).  I am going to be reading the rest of the series I have not read yet.  Book #.5 is His Leading Man, #1 is If I Loved You, Book #5 Love's Last Chance, and #6 is Lovers and Liars.  I am looking forward to finishing this series.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Can revenge turn to regret? Duped by slick, famous producer, Gunther Quill, Grace Brewster makes the biggest mistake of her life. Feeling humiliated by Quill and Jake Matthews, her sister’s Broadway co-star, Grace vows to even the score with both men. Using an alias and the Internet, she executes a genius payback plot. Her attacks hit their mark, wounding her intended targets. But she didn’t count on her sharp words going viral before she can blink, taking the injury to a new level.
Her satisfaction is short-lived when the scheme turns sour. Her plan backfires, turning into a huge secret she shares with a cold-blooded tabloid journalist. Can she trust this ruthless opportunist to keep her secret from the man she loves and the sister she adores? Or will she be exposed and robbed of the only happiness she’s known since the death of her beloved mother?

I loved this book!!  We meet Grace in Red Carpet Romance when we first met her sister, Cara.  These books are stand alone books.  I have not read the first 2 books in this series and I was able to follow along.

Grace has conflicts within herself for choices she has made.  She realizes due to those choices she could lose the man of her dreams.  What will she do?  Tell him what she did or hide it from him.  I think secrets always have a way of coming to the surface.  We may not want to hurt those we love, but we could by keeping those secrets to ourselves.

This is such a sweet romance.  I love how close Cara and Grace are.  They have been there for one another since their mother died.  Just because they are not in the same house does not mean they can't be there for one another.

What are your top 5 (or more) authors?

I was nominated by a friend to list 5 authors I stalk a few weeks ago, but I have been busy reading!.....so here is my list:

My list was only 6 (last year), but I have added 9 authors I have learned in the last year, who are Lynne Silver, Danielle Stewart, Ella Jade, Grace Burrowes, Jean C. Joachim, Gemma Brocato, Jessie Evans, and Debra Ann Fisk.

I have found some new series I love, but I think I will talk about those in a separate post so I can keep up with what I have read and what I have not read.  I am behind in some of the series I now read and I need to play catch up.

I can not pick 5. What can I say? I love to read. Now I don't stalk these authors every day on Facebook. I definitely go to Jennifer Bernard's Facebook Page every Friday for her Happy Firemen Friday!! (I am married to a volunteer fireman!). I have them all in a special category (authors) so I can find them when I want to look at their Facebook page.

What are your top 5 (or more) authors that you stalk on Facebook or their websites?
Happy Reading,

Review: Devastated

For this review, I chose Devastated by Monica May.  This is Book #1 of the New Orleans Temptation.  I am not sure what the second book is called or if there is a second book out right now, but I really hope so.  This was my first book by this author.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Living the American Dream Shelby had everything she could have dreamed of. A handsome husband, two children, a beautiful home and a great job. What else could she ask for?

In an instant her world is turned upside down when she innocently looks at her husband’s phone. With this Devastating discovery Shelby has to decide if she will walk away from twenty years of marriage? Or will she find a way to fit into Grant's erotic world.

What will she do? Will she walk on the wild side she never knew she had? How far will she go? If she crosses the line will she be able to live with herself when the sun comes up? Or will she let her over conservative personality end her marriage?

Shelby found photos on her husband's (Grant) cell phone.  Photos that you would not want anyone, but your spouse to see.  Grant sent those photos to someone (read to find out).  Shelby went through a bit of self-discovery of who she is.

WOW!  This is definitely different than what I am used to reading.  The description from Goodreads nailed it.  Think about it?  Most of us wives fall into a routine.  You know the one: Kids- feed them, clothes them, bath them; grocery shopping, appointments, homework, sports, etc.  This list goes on and on.  This book had a lot: heartache, betrayal, HOT sex, undying love, forgiveness, self-discovery, humor.  It was about second chances and not giving up when things go from good to bad in your relationship.  It reminded me to play attention to my husband.  Not because of what happened within this book, but because one day it will just be him and me when the kids leave the nest!!

Shelby wanted to know if she could find her Inner Sex Goddess- That inner voice of yours telling you something.  In the beginning of her relationship with her husband before they were married, they were let's say Friskier!!  During the 20 years married, they lost something.  Not love or intimacy, but things they used to do.  Shelby begins to wonder why?  So, she did some research in this area to explore the possibilities of what could be between her and her husband.

Review: In for a Pound

For this review, I chose In for a Pound by  Joselyn Vaughn, which is my first book I read by this author.  I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
When he finds out his father is ill Joshua Pounds speeds to Pine Bottom to take care of him, expecting to spend his time bouncing between doctors’ appointments and cancer treatments. His first task, however, requires a canoe paddle and helping his father’s friend win the honeymoon of her dreams. One things for sure, he never thought about falling in love with an engaged woman.

This book was different than what I have been reading lately- Girl finds boy, who doesn't know if he loves the girl.  This one started out with the main heroine, Sidney, engaged to Colin, who turned out to be a not so nice man.

I loved this book, the competition between Sidney and Missy.  I have met people like Missy and they want what you have and more.  I could not stop reading since I was hooked.  It was a sweet romance!  I recommend this book.

Review: Spring Fever

For this review, I chose A Spring Fever by Milly Taiden, Vella Day, Kerry Adrienne, Andie Devaux, and Lia Davis.  This is a paranormal romance box set, which has 5 brand new stories from 5 different authors.  I am going to try to keep each review for these down to a few sentences.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

When bear-shifter Trey meets the curvy, raven-haired goddess, Nichole, he realizes exactly what he wants and knows she’s worth any amount of trouble. All he has to do is seduce all of her insecurities away and claim her as his bonded mate.

Onto my review these stories:

Five Great Shifter authors and each had something different to offer the readers.   Each had HOT chemistry, a bit of suspense, love the main characters, powerful, and passionate.  I don't normally read books about Shifters, but something caught my eye.  This is only my second book in this genre.

With Waking the Bear by Kerry Adrienne, is there more to this story?  I loved the suspense of the SenPal Mountain Lion Pack.  There was so many adjectives to describe Chey, which I loved.

With Unexpected Diversion by Vella Day, this was HOT, but it was more than just HOT.  I can not think of a word to describe it.  Love the nickname for Chey!
"Like a moth to light, she pounced."

With Prime Desire by Andie Devaux, I loved that the park ranger was the Bear Shifter.  I laughed when I saw that Griff loved honey in his coffee.  Another story with lots of adjectives to describe  Nicolas.  Love the nickname for Evie!

With Bare Essentials by Lia Davis,  I loved how we read about Love at First sight.  It reminded me how much I love my husband.

With Match Made in Hell by Milly Taiden, loved how there was a witch in the story.  Was she a good witch or a bad witch?  This story was a little different since the location was Hell!

Review: Irresistibly Dangerous

For this review, I chose Irresistibly Dangerous by Debra Ann Fisk, which is book #2 in the Cozy Cove series.  Book #1 was Irresistibly Delicious.  I am not sure if there is a third book, but I hope so.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Artist Cookie Lucus is compelled to rethink her flirtatious, carefree life when a carnival psychic predicts a future love interest with a mysterious hot stranger. Armed with a string of unusual promises, she's determined to decipher the old woman's cryptic message. Slade Hunter is searching for lost treasure off the coast of Florida. Using the theme of Treasure Island, he plans to build a resort on the outskirts of town and no one is going to stand in his way, until curvy artist Cookie Lucas stimulates his unsettled lust. Divided between the project and the woman who haunts his sexual thoughts, Slade slowly grows accustomed to Cookie in his life. When Slade is almost lost at sea, Cookie learns she's pregnant and decides to keep it a secret. Soon, Slade discovers the treasure. This is happiest day of his life with the woman he loves by his side, but it's short lived when he learns that she's pregnant and has another secret. Can Cookie and Slade find true love, or will sudden danger and hidden secrets tear them apart? ** A BookStrand Mainstream Romance

The 2 characters I loved in this book are Cookie and Slade.  I loved how I have not read a book with the name Slade in it before (I think).  The Chemistry between Cookie and Slade is HOT!!  I enjoyed the suspense about the treasure (will he? Won't he find it?).  When I think about Calypso, I still laugh.  That bird is something else.  I love the phrase Calypso says about Gladys.  The description of the beach, sand, and ocean makes me what to pack a bag and go NOW!!  I love the beach and the sounds of the ocean.  I hope Ms Fisk writes a third book and many more in this series.  I love reading series and learning about every character in past books.

Review: Chaps and Chances

Here is my review for Chaps and Chances by Jessie Evans.  This was my first book by this author.  I received an ARC copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Back to the book, Chaps and Chances, which is book #5 of a series called Lonesome Point, Texas.
Book #1- Leather and Lace
Book #2- Saddles and Sin
Book #3- Diamonds and Dust
Book #4- Glitter and Grit
Book #6- Ropes and Revenge

Love the cover.  It was yelling at me "Read Me Please!"  Layla and Cole was loveable characters, who had a HOT Chemistry together.  Cowboys!  The theme is second chances and everyone deserves a second chance.  I felt so bad for Layla, but she was a strong female character, who knew what she wanted- Out of her abusive marriage.  Cole wanted Layla since high school, but he chickened out.  It reminded me that if you want something so badly, then don't wait.  It could be too late.   This book had it all- Romance, Suspense, and a little mystery!

I am going to read this entire series.  I am not sure where to start- at Book #1 or Book #6.  Love every title of this series plus the covers.  What can I say?  Cowboys! Yum!

Release Day: Jessie Evans Chaps and Chances Part 2

I will be sharing about a book I read and loved.  This book is by Jessie Evans and it is in her Lonesome Point, Texas Series, and is called Chaps and Chances.

About Jessie Evans
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessie Evans, gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sexy, contemporary Southern romances she loves to read.
She's married to the man of her dreams, and together they're raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a cottage in the jungle. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more.
When she's not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and drifting in and out on the waves, feeling thankful for sun, surf, and lovely people to share them with.

I want to share with you an excerpt from the book:

SUSPENSEFUL EXCERPT

Quiet. Calm. Don’t breathe. Don’t think. Don’t move. Play dead, Layla. You can do that.
You’ve been half-dead for years.
Layla squeezed her eyes shut and curled into a tighter ball inside the absolute blackness of the storage ottoman in the corner of Grayson and Reece’s bedroom. She’d dismissed the closet and underneath the bed as too predictable to be good hiding places. At the last moment, just as footsteps plodded slowly up the stairs, she’d lowered herself into the hollow ottoman and pulled the heavy leather lid on top.
Now, there was nothing but to keep quiet and pray.
Pray that it wasn’t Wayne’s boots thumping on the wooden floor in the hall, pray that this was a thief who would take her valuables and go away, and pray that Cole didn’t get hurt when he came rushing to her rescue.
She should never have called him. She shouldn’t have put him in danger, no matter how terrified she was.
Please, God, please let Cole be okay. Please let this be anyone other than Wayne.
A moment later, her husband’s deep voice shattered the middle-of-the-night silence, proving no one was listening to her prayers. “I know you’re here, Layla. And I know your brother isn’t. So why don’t you come out and talk to me, baby girl. I think we’ve got a lot to go over, don’t you?”
Layla bit down hard on her bottom lip, concentrating on the pain, fighting the tremor that rocked through her body in response to hearing her husband’s voice for the first time in months. She’d started to forget how easily he could frighten her, the way all it took was a few words and a certain tone of voice to let her know she was in trouble.
That tone thickened his words as he spoke again, making it clear how much he itched to get his hands on her, his fists into her, his rage washing over her like a flood of poison she couldn’t escape.
“I know what you did, baby.” Wayne’s words were followed by a low laugh that transformed into a prolonged, racking cough.

What do you think?  Good right?
Happy Reading!

“Good morning, sweetness,” he said, blinking sleepily as he returned her grin. “How long have you been awake?”
“About an hour,” she said, going into his arms as he reached for her.
“I’m sorry.” He pulled her onto his chest, wrapping a warm arm around her waist. “You should have woken me up. I would have made you coffee.”
“I liked watching you.” She pressed a kiss to his bare skin, her body beginning to hum the way it always did when she touched this man. “You’re pretty when you sleep.”
He humphed. “Not pretty enough or you would have woken me up with a kiss.”
She laughed. “I don’t do morning breath, Lawson. Not even for a man as pretty as you.”
“You’re not using your imagination, Parker,” Cole countered, rolling over until she was pinned beneath him. “You didn’t have to kiss me on the mouth.”
“Oh?” Layla’s pulse picked up as Cole’s hand trailed up her thigh. “Is that so? Where should I have kissed you then?” she asked, playing innocent.
“I’ll show you.” He tossed off the blanket and sheet before scooting down to the end of the bed until his mouth was level with her curled legs. “There’s the ankle, for example. The ankle is very sensitive first thing in the morning.” He pressed a kiss to the skin just beneath the inside of her left ankle, his soft lips and scruffy face combining to make the kiss even more delicious than she’d been expecting.
She shivered. “That is nice. I didn’t know that about ankles.”
“Backs of knees, too,” he said, urging her legs farther apart, settling between them before bringing his mouth to hover behind her bent knee.
“See?” he said, breath heating her skin, sending another prickle of awareness dancing on kitten feet up the inside of her thighs. “This back of knee doesn’t care what my breath smells like. It has no awareness of morning breath. Not even a little bit. Isn’t that right back of knee?”
“Yes,” he answered himself in a high-pitched voice. “That’s right, Cole.”
Layla giggled. “Is that supposed to be my knee talking back to you?”
“Well, of course it’s me,” he continued in the same squeaky tone. “Who else would it be, Missy? Seems like you’d recognize my voice after thirty years together.”
“I’m so sorry, knee,” Layla said, rolling her eyes as she laughed. “I can’t believe you’re making my body parts talk. You’re so weird.”
“Weird?” He affected a wounded expression.
So weird,” she said, still laughing.
“Fine, Parker,” he said, eyes darkening as his palms came to rest on the insides of her thighs. “If making your body parts talk is so weird, I guess I’ll have to settle for making you scream instead.”
