Review: Secret Love

For this review, I chose Secret Love by Christine Warner.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:

Saranac, Michigan
March 1955

Lizzie Tarleton has always done things her own way—including the time at the tender age of thirteen when she confessed to her brother’s best friend she loved him. But now she’s a new teacher at the local high school, and independent enough to know that you can’t force love. She’ll find love when the time is right—even though her parents are adamant the time is now. The only downfall to her idyllic life is the fact that her childhood crush—who broke her heart—is now her boss. If only she could stop daydreaming about him.

Wayne Whitmore grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and worked hard to get where he’s at in life. Even though he enjoys being principal at the small town high school, he dreams of coaching baseball. When his best friend asks him to watch over his little sister at her new job at Wayne’s school, he agrees. What he doesn’t count on is how she’s grown from the pig tailed kid who told him she loved him, to the woman who breaks his concentration with her beauty and smile. Unable to get over his fascination, and afraid he’ll ruin his friend’s trust, Wayne applies for his dream job—one that will take him far away.

One night while decorating the school gymnasium for an upcoming sock hop, Lizzie and Wayne find themselves alone. They share a kiss and Lizzie realizes her childhood crush for Wayne has never died. Wayne decides he doesn’t want to let Lizzie get away.

Can they come to terms with their secret love and then overcome the other secrets they are hiding in order to get what they each want? Or is their timing for love still off?

I loved this book.  Ir was so sweet.  Lizzie told Wayne that she loved him when she was 13, but it did not go like she thought it would.  It took courage to do what she did.  To have her brother's friend there every day isn't a great way to get over a crush.

It was great to see the lives in the 50s.  I was not around back there.  I could see everything that Ms Warner described.  It was a different time.  I liked that it seemed like it had a slower pace than it does now.

Lizzie went off to college to become a home ec teacher.  There she was in the school where Wayne was the principal.  Lizzie tried to ignore what she was feelings about Wayne.  Wayne was seeing Lizzie in a new light.  She was all grown up.  My favorite part was the What If.  I won't get into it so I do not spoil anything for you, but it is good!!

Review: SEAL of Honor: Swede

For this review, I chose SEAL of Honor: Swede by Dale Mayer.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Swede watched the other SEALs fall one by one, even as murder got in the way of love…
But his turn for love had yet to come. Swede hoped that he’d be lucky enough to find the perfect partner but knew it wasn’t going to happen while deep in the wilds of Mexico hunting a rebel training camp. Until a group of civilians showed up in the middle of their operation and he found out that the one person he’d known to be the wrong woman for him – was right in the middle of it.
Eva had always loved animals, especially those in need. When a friend requested help moving a large group of horses from Mexico to their new homes, she jumped at it. And landed in trouble. With Swede, an old frenemy determined to extricate her.
As he worked to keep her safe, she struggled to protect her heart. Only the rebels had plans of their own – and it didn’t involve a happy ending for either of them.

I absolutely loved this book and this series.  This is Book #3 of this series.  It contained humor, brotherhood, a strong woman, and HOT SEALs.  These SEALS protect their own and Eva was one of their own.  Eva is Hawk's sister, who we met in Book #1, Hawk.  When I got to the end of this book, I wanted to keep reading into Shadow's book.  I can not wait until I can read that book!

Definitely a fan of Dale Mayer's books and will be reading more.

Review: Harley Brennan, Running Back

For this review, I chose Harley Brennan, Running Back by Jean C. Joachim.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Harley Brennan and Shyla Hollings agreed to part company to follow their careers. It was a mutual decision. The star running back had no problem getting dates, but never the right dates. After one year spent trying to replace the only woman he’d ever loved, he declared defeat. Until the reality TV show, Marriage Minded, approached him.
Harley flew to L.A. after the Super Bowl, ready to find his new soul mate. Bumping into Shyla at the airport didn’t give him a clue that she’d be behind the scenes, designing the sets for the program. And she didn’t tell him. Was Fate playing a hand, bringing them together? If so, Harley had to admit, Fate had lousy timing.
Convinced his life was heading for a touchdown, Harley’s confidence was high, until his luck ran out. Would the running back get knocked out of the game or sprint to victory?
A unique combination of reality TV show surprises, football action, humor, and steamy love scenes, HARLEY BRENNAN, RUNNING BACK, will keep you guessing until the last scene.

This is book #7 of the First and Ten Series.
Book #1- Griff Montgomery, Quarterback
Book #2-Buddy Carruthers, Wide Receiver
Book #3- Pete Sebastian, Coach
Book #4-Devon Drake, Cornerback
Book #5-Sly "Bullhorn" Brodsky, Offensive Line
Book #6-Al "Trunk" Mahoney, Defensive Line

It was great to be with the guys again.  They just won the Super Bowl and life was good!  But, Harley wants wants a life like some of his team mates- a wife and kids.  Harley has met the woman he wanted to marry, but Shyla chose her career.  Did Shyla make a mistake?  Is Harley the "one"?  Shyla takes a job working on the designs for the reality TV Show, Marriage Minded, and the man looking for a wife is Harley.  Shyla thinks she can do this show and be behind the scenes and Harley would never know.  So many emotions!  I could feel for both Shyla and Harley.  I am not sure I could do what Shyla did, work on a set design where the man you love/loved is the one to get a wife.  Could you?

Review: Draw Me Close

For this review, I chose Draw Me Close by Nicole Michaels.

I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchanged for a honest review.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
You Need A Good Foundation

Lindsey Morales is a decorating genius with a natural flair for design and an eye for a bargain. As a contributor to a popular lifestyle blog, she can take anything from trash to treasure—except for her own life. Burned once, and badly, she's more than twice shy, especially when it comes to the breathtaking builder who broke her heart…

Before You Can Build Happily Ever After

Architect Derek Walsh has made a name for himself designing sleekly modern buildings, but when renovating a hundred-year-old farmhouse gives him the chance to see Lindsey again, he jumps at it. Still dreaming about her after eight long years apart, he'll do anything to prove that he's serious about spending the future with her. Can he convince sassy, stubborn Lindsey that they can DIY their own happy ending?

This book is #3 in the Hearts and Crafts series.  Book #1 is Start Me Up.  Book #2 is Win Me Over.  I have not read those 2 books, but I plan to.  Miss Nicole Michaels is a new to me author.  I love when I get to read new authors that I have not had the opportunity to read.

I loved this book.  It reminded me that if you find true lasting love, don't let it go ever because if you do, you may end up regretting it.  I understand why Lindsay Morales is so mad at Derek Walsh.  I am not going to say what.  Just go read this book!!  I would be the same way.  Derek had a decision to make 8 years ago.  Did he make the right choice for himself and everyone involved?  I am not so sure he did.  This book made me think.  What if my husband (before we were married) was in the same position as Derek?  How would I react?  How would Lindsay react if she knew what she knows 8 years later?

I think Lindsay was summed up in what she said on page 26 Kindle Location 338.  I could see Lindsay's eyes sparkle with the passion she has for her work.  This house sounds wonderful.  I love the details, the craftmanship of old houses, which are the 2 main reasons why I love them, too!  They tend to be built better than today's homes.  I love reading blogs like the one Lindsay and her friends have.  One to help with DIY projects or give ideas for new DIY projects.
"I love old houses.  Love their charm, their quirks, their souls.  But I like to find the perfect balance of new and old."

Derek is the contractor on the same job as Lindsay, but also in their friends' wedding.  She does not want to deal with him.  It is so cute how she leaves him messages.  Derek and Lindsay was like friction between 2 surfaces.  Eventually something to go to give!! Derek has to make her trust him again, but one can not make a person do that.  He needs to earn her trust back.  Will he succeed?  Will they be able to move past what he did?

My favorite part beside them arguing here and there is the ER scene.

Review: Twirly Girl

For this review, I chose Twirly Girl by V.L. Locey.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Born into a prestigious and powerful political family, Venom captain Alicia Avery learned at a young age that appearances were everything. Alicia has now been molded into the perfect young woman; her only transgressions against the dictates of her parents to date are her dogged determination to play hockey and a rather radical new haircut. That was before Alicia met Dale Christie, a highly principled and deeply spiritual street performer who is raising his daughter, Wren Song, alone.

Now Alicia is finally opening her mind and heart to the knowledge that there is more to life than monetary success and ambitious goals. As her soul awakens, so does her desire for the man her parents - and society - would deem horrendously wrong for her. Can the Venom captain learn to walk a new path of serenity through life? Or will the pacifist and the hockey player be torn apart by a world that judges a person by the size of their bank account versus the largesse of their soul?

It is really great to be back with the ladies from Venom!!  This is book #2 and we are learning about Alicia Avery, who is the Captain.  Alicia grew up with a prestigious family and was taught to be her best.  Her parents think hockey is just a phase, but to Alicia, it is not a phase.  It is her passion.  Everyone should have a passion.  What will her parents think of the man, Dale Christie, she has met?  A street performer?  I do not think they would approve.  Dale has an adorable daughter, Wren, who has Down Syndrome.  Wren is in the Special Skates program.

One of my favorite thing about this book is Down Syndrome is being highlighted.  Raising a special needs child is very rewarding.  Yes, it can be tiring, but worth every minute.

I can not wait to read more from this series!!  Great book once again!  Romance mixed with hockey, thinking about life and what you want from it, and a cute little girl, too!!

Review: Dangerous Curves

For this review, I chose Dangerous Curves by Morgan Kay.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Wolfe Jackson is hot on the trail of a domestic terroristic who has been causing havoc and panic by blowing up factories. The trail, although sketchy, has led to a convention in the Midwest. Is it a false trail? Wolfe is unsure, but he knows that a certain blonde named Krista bears investigating.

Krista Harlow finds her life as a principal dull. So bland in fact, she thinks attending the annual principal conference might enliven it. She even harbors secret romantic aspirations. As a principal, she must keep everything strait laced and buttoned down, but that was before she was mistaken for a corporate spy and saboteur, and possible murderer.

Wolfe initially approaches the suspect by pretending he knows her. Krista plays along, proving she’s either devilishly clever or she’s really interested in him as a man. The road to restore his credibility is full of dangerous curves.

I absolutely loved this book!  It grabbed me from the first page and it would not allow me to put down my ipad!  I did not want to stop reading.  It was suspenseful and romantic.

Wolfe Jackson is after a domestic terroristic and does not believe that it is Krista Harlow.  I am not sure what he is though.  It never really said unless I missed it.  I did see the FBI and agent mentioned so I was thinking he was an undercover FBI agent.  Krista Harlow is a principal and lives a dull life until she is at a conference where she goes out of character for herself.

What would you do if a man pretends to know you?  Would you call him out on it?  Or would you go with it?  Krista went with it.  I think for me it depends on the man.

I will be reading more from this author.
