Jessica Buss joins me today to talk us about her writing and her new series.
About Jessica: Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. She is married to her high school sweetheart and has two sons. Although she has both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Psychology, she stepped away from that field to be a stay-at-home mom. Now that her kids are growing up and she’s getting more time to herself, she’s giving this writing thing a chance.

Welcome, Jessica. Please tell us how long have you been writing?
Jessica: In the world of writers, I am a newbie. I have only been published since 2022, and I only started officially writing a little while before that. I have been drafting stories and songs in my head since I was little, but I was courageous enough to take a leap of faith until I was in my 40s. I guess you’re never too old to start something new.
What is your writing process like? Are you more of a plotter or a pantser?
Jessica: Chaos. I wish I were more organized and better at planning, but I’m a work in progress.
Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?
Jessica: Born & Raised Alaskan. I spent three years in Idaho for my undergrad degree.

Favorite thing about your state you live in.
Jessica: Scenery. It’s magnificent. There is nothing like Alaska.

How did you come up with the ideas for your series?
Jessica: I have always been a people watcher and wondering about their lives starts my curiosity down a track for a new story or series.

How do you celebrate finishing a book?
Jessica: I don’t do much. I need to do better about that. Maybe that’ll be my 2025 NY wish.

As an author, what would you choose as your spirit animal?
Jessica: Hmmm. A horse. They have different speeds depending on the situation.

When you’re crab fishing in the Bering Sea, one misstep can have devastating, even deadly, consequences.
Henrik, a grumpy crab fisherman living on Kodiak Island, has never been swayed by anything—not until Carina, a curvy, sweet-tempered marine biologist, catches his eye. He’s drawn to her by an unquestionable attraction that he can’t shake.
A former resident of the island, Carina returns home because the rapidly declining population of crabs in the Bering Sea troubles her. And although years have gone by, she’s still incredibly attracted to the brooding object of her teenage fantasies. And now he’s the captain of a crabber, and determined to protect the crabs too.
But getting to know him means she must face the childhood trauma that made her fearful of her first true love—the ocean. Will she be able to conquer the anxiety she’s held for so long? Can she once again entrust someone she loves to the sea?
