Review: Where There's Smoke

For this review, I chose  by Where There's Smoke by Olivia B. Dannon.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Bella Struthers, recent widow, is determined to find out what really happened to her Navy SEAL husband. His mysterious death has her heart in a vise. Answers are her only ticket to freedom.

Vincent Belluci moved to Peaches, Colorado a year ago, meeting Bella on his first day. He's wanted there ever since. Her witty, quick tongue and fearless nature strokes his libido like no other. But... she was married and off limits.

Now that she's not, how long is he supposed to wait?

Joining forces with Bella, Vince hopes to help her gain closure. However, getting answers from Navy SEALs is turning out to be a deadly game. Bodies are piling up. It'll take all his old mobster life know-how to get them both out alive.

Even if they do miraculously survive, will Bella and Vince have a chance at a happily ever after of their own?

This book can be read as a stand alone.  This is Book #4 in the Heatwave Series.  I have read Book #1 & #2.  I need to read Book #3.

I love reading about town.  Vincent moved to Peaches, Colorado a year ago.  He met Bella the first day there.  He waited by the sidelines to see if there could be anything in the future.  Then, her husband dies.  He waits some more.  When Vince is given the opportunity to help and protect her, he can not say no.  Will Bella feel the same as Vince?  Will there be room in her heart for another man other than her husband?

I need to finish this series!

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Review: Dan Alexander, Pitcher

For this review, I chose Dan Alexander by Jean C. Joachim.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Fed up with cheating women, Dan Alexander, star pitcher for the New York Nighthawks, grew restless. Searching for something more than a bar babe, he zeroed in on a girl in the stands. He never expected to see a beautiful chick pushing frankfurters. But the hot dog girl looked as smokin’ as the food she was selling.
Holly Merrill found a place to hide in plain sight, as a vendor at Nighthawks’ stadium. Keeping her secret safe and simply happy to stay alive, she never considered finding love an option. After all, a bad girl doesn’t deserve a decent guy, does she?
Coming off his best season ever, Dan went into the playoffs, hell bent on winning the pennant and playing in the World Series. But could he maintain his focus on the field, where everything was going right, when off the field everything was falling apart?

This is a new series about baseball players called Bottom of the Nineth.  I am not sure when the last time I read a book or a series on baseball players.  Well, once again, I loved the book.  Well written.  Great characters.

Dan is the pitcher for the New York Nighthawks.  Holly Merrill needs to hide and she decides to hide in plain sight as a vendor selling hot dogs at the Nighthawks' stadium.  Holly's life is messed up.  The only thing she wants is to be safe.  The only thing Dan wants is a girl that does not cheat on him when he is on the road.  Will they get want they both want?

I can not wait to read Book #2.

Review: Duncan The Story Dragon

For this review, I chose Duncan The Story Dragon by Amanda Driscoll.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
A charming story about the joys of reading that is perfect for fans of Dog Loves Books and Stellaluna.

Duncan the Dragon loves to read. When he reads a story, his imagination catches fire! Unfortunately…so does his book.

Fire breath is great for roasting marshmallows, but it’s not so great for reading. Duncan just wants to get to those two wonderful words, like the last sip of a chocolate milk shake: The End. Will he ever find out how the story ends?

This bright, warm tale champions determination, friendship, and a love for books. And milk shakes!

My son, Ethan, asked the Children's Librarian if our library had this book and they did not.  I have library card from our area for a different library, which I use to get ebooks.  I asked for it and I received an email saying my hold was in.

Ethan was so happy to be able to read it.  He read it to me!  We both loved the cover.  To me, the cover was so inviting that you had to read it.  The illustrations are so adorable.  Ethan loved the end, but I am not going to tell you who he gets to read the book to.  It is very cute.

If you are looking for a new book to read to your child or have your child read to you, then I highly recommend this book.  Ethan and I want to see if Ms Amanda Driscoll has any other books because we want to read more of her books.

Review: Fredo's Dream

For this review, I chose Fredo's Dream by Sharon Hamilton.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
***See SPECIAL NOTE below if you preordered this book***
Navy SEAL Alphonso Manuel Esquidido “Fredo” Sanchez has the heart of a lion and would do anything to protect and honor his beautiful bride, Mia. He’d fought for her love tirelessly, even after his Team buddies suggested he give up. But it was more than pride that wounded him when he discovered he could not father children. He is raising another man’s son as his own, but can never give her what she wants more than possibly anything else in the world. He has kept this a secret only unto himself and his best friend, Cooper. And he knows time is not on his side.

Mia Guzman has come a long way from wild child girlfriend of San Diego drug dealers to devoted mother and now dutiful wife of the man she now knows was always there for her, and always will be. She yearns to have a child with Fredo, to honor him with her body in every way she can, perhaps making up for the years she discounted his devotion.

Their beautiful love and marriage will be tested to the limits through twists and turns before the dramatic final outcome readers will love.

I have gotten more fan mail about Fredo than any other of my Navy SEALs. This book is for you readers, by popular request!

****PREORDER ALERT - An incorrect version of this book was uploaded in error, but has been fixed. If you preordered this book, you can get the new version by going to "Manage Your Kindle Devices" and requesting the free update ****

I love this series.  I have read all, but I think 2.  You can read this as a standalone, but Fredo's Secret gives you more details.  I do not want to say what that secret is if you have not read Fredo's Secret.  I want you to be surprised.  I want you to feel whatever emotions when you find out!  This secret is repeated in Fredo's Dream.  Fredo wants something so badly that he dreams about it.  Fredo has to tell Mia his "secret", but not sure how she will react.

Fredo is my favorite.  I have listened to some of the audios of the earlier books in this series and Fredo's voice had me laughing.  That laugh says with me each time I listen or read about him.

Review: Unworthy

For this review, I chose Unworthy by Lynne Silver.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Bienvenidos a Miami. Welcome to the hottest party scene in the U.S. Behind all the glitter, hard bodies and sexy drinks, the lives of the hard-partying residents of the 305 aren’t all they seem.

Cat Ross struggles to make ends meet. If she doesn’t scrounge up enough cash for rent and to pay off her brother’s drug dealers, she’ll be sleeping at a shelter, and her beloved brother, Danny, will be in worse trouble.

As Miami’s hottest party promoter, it looks as if Ian Lawrence’s life is fun and games, but partying this hard takes work, and Ian takes business seriously. He wasn’t counting on his former best friend’s little sister, Cat Ross, to come crashing back into his life. She was the one girl who mattered until he messed things up by sleeping with her on her eighteenth birthday, and then running.

As Cat and Ian’s relationship reignites, he wants to protect her by keeping her brother away. But it’s not easy for Cat to choose between her last living family member and the man she’s always loved.

This is the first book in the Worthy series.  It is set in Miami.  I think it has been awhile since I read a book with the setting set in Miami.  Cat Ross is trying to keep herself a float, but it keeps getting harder and harder for her.  She is so close to be homeless.  Life for Cat has been hard for her most of her life.  Her brother is a drug addict and his life is affecting her life.  Ian Lawrence is a hot party promoter, who was good friends with Cat's brother.  They had a hot night together when they were younger.

What I loved about this book is the realness to it.  I can see Cat being poor.  Struggling to make ends meet.  Haven't we all been there at one time or another?  As a reader, I was able to see what life for families and their addicts.  The lies, the danger from the dealers if they don't pay, and the worry of if they will survive.

If you are looking for a book that hooks you from page one, then this is it!!

Review: Animal Planet Chapter Books Shark

For this review, I chose Animal Planet Chapter Books Shark.

I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchanged for a honest review.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Animal Planet presents a Chapter book on Sharks!
This is my sixth book I have read from Animal Planet.  Bugs, snakes, Dolphin rescue are a few of the other chapter books that Animal Planet has.

Beautiful colorful pictures. Very educational.  This book tells you the differences between sharks and the many different types that we have.  I have never heard of Lemon Sharks.  Have you?  Great White Sharks are a favorite of my.  Such beautiful creatures.

Love the resources at the end of the book.  Out of the aquariums listed, I have been at 2.
