I HAVE A STORY

GENRE: Historical Romance

BLURB:
Jim Turner writes crime but doesn’t live it. He respects his grandfather’s tales of heroes but doesn’t believe them. When his failing grandfather sends him to a remote peninsula to write the end of his own heroic love story, Jim includes a war criminal interview to maintain his edge.
Chastity is an anomaly, a misfit in pre-WWII culture as well as in Jim’s life. Her spritely charm and endearing features turn Jim’s world upside down, especially when she reveals his grandfather’s peninsula as the site of her upcoming wedding.
Do good journalists flee when their interviewee is murdered? Do heroes write fiancés out of another’s story and themselves in? “The End” become the hardest words for Jim to write.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT
Author's Note: Boy meets Girl. Defending the damsel.
“Hey, sissy, you Turner?” a gruff voice barked from below.
I froze. I had imagined the deserter’s voice like that, deep like a foghorn. But I had also expected an accent. I peered above my hands, swiping humiliating tears from my eyes as I did. The largest man I had ever seen loomed like a giant below. Huge like a bull, without a bit of fat. Two bulls, maybe. I scrambled to my feet, glad a ladder that couldn’t possibly hold him stretched between us. Without that advantage, I had the chances of a pencil against Mount Everest.
“I’m Jim Turner.” I tried to sound tough. Hard to sound and look the part in my nice, new clothing while his dirty undershirt sagged in all the right places to show off his muscles. His scruffy whiskers, wiry hair, and soiled pants made me feel as hardy as a china doll.
“Where’s the babe?” The hulk looked to my right and my left and then at the rest of Chastity’s house below.
“She is a lady, not a babe,” I corrected him. “And she is no concern of yours.” I gulped. “How do you know about her anyway? Who are you? Are you Randy?” I felt giddy with hope that this was Reed and he was still alive.
He looked bigger than I had estimated Reed to be in his dark motel room, but who else would be looking for me? I gulped again. This could be whoever did Randy in.
“Randy? What sort of name is that for a man?” He bellowed, but he wasn’t really a laughing sort of fellow.
If I lived, I would put a character like him in one of my books, since he far surpassed any bad guy I had ever contrived. “My name is Clyde. We was supposed to meet.”
