Book Tour: The Book of Ribbner by Ronnie Vergnolle

Fiction

Date Published: July 27, 2026

Publisher: MindStir Media

What would you sacrifice for one more chance to speak with someone you lost?

The Book of Ribbner by Ronnie Vergnolle is a sweeping literary adventure that travels across wild rivers, distant oceans, and sacred landscapes in search of answers to humanity’s most enduring questions.

At the center of the story is Hannah Ribbner, a grieving adventurer drawn into a mysterious prophecy involving the legendary Golden Mahseer, the haunting song of the 52-hertz whale, and a decision that could change the relationship between humanity, nature, and artificial intelligence forever.

As Hannah’s journey unfolds, she encounters extraordinary wildlife, ancient wisdom, spiritual mysteries, and the unspoken code shared by those who understand the water. Each discovery leads her closer to a truth that challenges everything she believes about love, loss, consciousness, and the sacred connections that unite all living things.

Blending adventure fiction, environmental themes, spiritual discovery, grief and healing, and thought-provoking questions about AI, The Book of Ribbner is an imaginative and emotionally resonant novel for readers who enjoy meaningful stories set against the beauty and danger of the natural world.

Can technology understand the human soul? Can a machine experience awe? And can one sacred fish help restore the balance between humanity and nature?

The prophecy is waiting. Hannah must decide how the story ends.

Excerpt

“Despair erupts beginnings.” God

CHAPTER ONE

Genesis

Just when you think there is no God, when despair, loneliness, and helplessness swallow your last hope for humanity, one shows up. Most of the times, God interjects with simple revelations like the face of Jesus grilled into cheese sandwiches or Allah etched into the skin of a mango, but on occasion, the Lord makes a humanity-changing proclamation, an edict wrapped in metaphysical, allegoric platitudes that transcend the understanding of all but the chosen listener— delivered with the sincerity of fire, floods, leaking hands, and spontaneous literacy. That’s what the fuck I’m talking about.

It was a late spring, a mid-May day, the height of rebirth celebrations for most religions, and in 2023, also the nadir of Covid-19-end-of-times hysteria. The scene was set, humanity’s irrationality on full display, and the way I remember her telling it, one hardcore fisherman witnessed God and had quite an interesting conversation with Her, or Him, or It? Hannah Ribbner didn’t know which, nor did she care. It was burning bush-level shit, except God came to her on the UmeĆ„lven River in northeast Sweden in the much subtler form of a fish, a fish with a prophecy portending the enlightened beginning or the stultified ending of humanity.

Thus begins The Book of Ribbner.

His writing explores the healing power of water, the responsibility people have to protect vulnerable ecosystems, and whether artificial intelligence could ever experience wonder, love, or awe.

In The Book of Ribbner, Ronnie Vergnolle blends global adventure, sacred wildlife, emotional discovery, and philosophical fiction into an unforgettable story about loss, purpose, and the choices that may determine humanity’s future.

Excerpt

I didn’t know what to do. I tried turning my head from left to right, but no matter
what direction I turned, a stinging pain shot through my neck. At thirty years old,
I never imagined I would be dealing with the amount of pain I was experiencing
every moment of every day. I felt like a weight was sitting between my shoulders,
giving off moments of sharp, piercing pain that radiated down my arms and into
my fingers. With all this constant pain, I couldn’t focus at work, and even being
present with my family and friends became noticeably more difficult. No matter
how much I prayed, rested, or stretched, there was no relief from the pain.
I saw a chiropractor who did everything within his scope of care to
bring some relief, but nothing worked. The next step was to get an
MRI to see what was happening in my spine. There I was inside the
MRI tube, listening to the loud clicks of the machine and hoping for a
nswers about the pain I was constantly feeling. A few days later, I got a
call from the doctor who said I had five herniated discs in my neck
and upper back. I was relieved by the answers but stood motionless,
unsure what to do next. My chiropractor had a plan—adjustments,
spinal decompression, and pain management injections.
For the next year, I spent four to five days a week at the
chiropractor’s office to get adjusted and have my spine stretched,
hoping to move the discs into place. Each session lasted about an
hour, and the out-of-pocket expenses quickly added up. We met
our insurance deductibles and were maxing out our out-of-pocket
requirements. After all these treatments, I was still miserable, s
till in pain. I told my doctor, “I can’t keep doing this. What do
I need to do next?” He suggested talking to a surgeon, the very
thing we were trying to avoid by doing the treatments. So I
reached out to a handful of neurosurgeons, and they
scheduled me to have another round of MRIs to see
what shape my spinal cord and discs were in.
The results of the MRIs revealed I still had three discs out
of place and bulging. The conversation shifted to surgery and
a plan to cut out one disc, replace it with a spacer, and fuse
the vertebrae together. This was intended to save as many discs
and vertebrae as possible due to my age and the severity of my
condition. The surgeon warned me that additional surgeries
might be necessary because of the extra stress on the bones
above and below the fused vertebrae. But I was desperate for
relief, so I told them to schedule the surgery.
A few weeks later, I went in for the surgery, optimistic
about finding some relief. After the anesthesia wore off,
I woke up in a different kind of pain due to the surgery. The
surgeon expressed his findings and said the surgery
was a success. I was instructed to rest for the next
six weeks and then have a follow-up appointment to see if
everything looked correct.
I was working full-time at a large organization and
had three young sons, all under the age of six, so
resting was not as easy as it sounded. After six weeks,
I went back to see the surgeon and had an X-ray, which
showed a successful surgery. He gave me some tips
and limitations for my continued healing and recovery. I
felt relief from the pain I had been dealing with and was so
grateful that I was on the road to a full recovery. Then
the unimaginable happened.

Book Tour & Giveaway: reclaim: How to Stop Scrolling Through Your Life and Start Living It by Heather Henderson

How to Stop Scrolling Through Your Life and Start Living It

Personal Development / Digital Well-Being (Narrative Nonfiction)
Date Published: Tuesday, September 22, 2026
Publisher: Fernlight Books

 You’re not broken. You’re overstimulated.

They sat on the beach with their backs to the ocean, faces in their phones, watching clips of someone else’s vacation. As Heather Henderson stood a few feet away, ready to capture the perfect Cabo moment, she realized we were promised more: more connection, more freedom, more possibility — not a life spent refreshing feeds.

Handed devices before we were taught how to live with them, most of us inherited this algorithmic world. We learned to let notifications and endless recommendations choose for us in small, quiet ways, until the choices no longer felt like choices at all, and we found ourselves scrolling through life instead of living it.

The problem goes beyond casual screen time. It is unconscious time — the moments we surrender without realizing the cost.

Drawing from her years inside major tech companies, including Google and Uber, Heather Henderson invites readers to ask:

Did I choose this, or was it chosen for me?

If you feel wired but tired, connected but lonely, or busy but empty, this book is an honest look at how we lost presence — and a guide to reclaim it.

Excerpt

These days, our lives feel more like a game of mental Tetris, one that can never be won. Clear one email, three pop up. No matter how hard we try, the notifications keep stacking.

Right now, I have 33 tabs open on my laptop. Thirty-three. And that's not a metaphor, it's my actual browser. But it might as well be my brain.

Our minds jump from thought to thought, mentally everywhere and yet emotionally nowhere. We're so sucked into our phones that we can't remember the last time we looked up. Let alone what we just scrolled past. Perhaps you're like me; I tried turning off notifications, but I ended up checking my phone more often. A feeling reminiscent of the yo-yo diet culture of the early 2000s, where Special K was sold as the "answer" but only left us hungrier. This isn't distraction, it's deeper. We're fragmented, overstimulated, and always somewhere else.

It's what I call open-tab mind. The mental default of the digital age. But it isn't just a metaphor. It's how technology is impacting our brains and everyday lives. This became impossible to ignore when I learned how the people who built these systems live with them.

Jack Dorsey — the co-founder of Twitter, a platform designed around constant updates and real-time attention — now practices some of the most extreme digital boundaries I've ever heard of.

When I first heard this, I had two immediate reactions: That's insane. And — of course. That makes total sense. Because why would someone need monk-level discipline unless they'd built something so compelling it required monk-level discipline to resist? That isn't hypocrisy. It's evidence.

At the airport, you refresh your gate info, check texts, and scroll on repeat. You were supposed to journal, but you got distracted by the buzz of a notification. Instead, I got lost in the scroll, only half hearing my boarding call. Twenty minutes later, I still hadn't pulled out my notebook, and my phone hadn't left my palm.

Here's the thing: it wasn't just me. And it isn't just airports. Digital distraction has seeped into every aspect of our lives. It’s in classrooms, boardrooms, even the conference rooms of the most innovative companies in the world.

 Excerpt

Keenan Jr., Taylor, and Kennedy step inside when the front door swings open. Lillian wipes her  hands on her apron and walks out of the kitchen to greet them in the foyer.

Keenan Jr. wraps his arms around her. “Hi, Mama. Dinner smells amazing.” Lillian hugs him back tightly, her smile bright and genuine. “Hey, baby. Thank you. I’m making  all your favorites.” She squeezes him tighter. “I’m so glad y’all are here.”

“Me too, Ma.” He glances around. “Where is Dad?”

Her smile disappears, and she tightens her lips before she responds. “He’s upstairs getting  dressed.” She sounds so upset.

Taylor steps forward next, offering a polite hug. “Hi, Mrs. Waters. The table looks lovely.” “Aww, thank you, sweetheart.”

As Keenan Jr. tends to Kennedy, Taylor lowers her voice. “Are you okay? Last night, before I  left—”

“Shh.” Lillian cuts her off quickly, looking toward her son. “Not now.”

“But I was really worried about you.”

Lillian doesn’t respond. Instead, she turns her attention to Kennedy, lighting up. “Kennedy, is  that you? Grandma has missed you so, so much.”

The little girl runs into her arms, hugging her neck. “I missed you, too, Grandma! I love you.” “Grandma loves you, too, baby.” Lillian kisses her cheek, then puts her down and holds out her  hand. “Come with me. Grandma’s gonna put you to work, pretty girl.”

In the kitchen, Lillian ties a little pink apron around Kennedy that says Cooking with Grandma.  The three generations—Lillian, Taylor, and Kennedy—work together with big smiles, preparing the  second batch of candied yams.

Naomi enters the house next, happy to see Keenan Jr. sitting at the dining room table. She  grins. “I know that’s not my handsome big brother sitting there.”

Keenan Jr. gets up to greet her with a hug. “What’s up, baby sister. I missed you.” “I missed you, too!”

Naomi joins the women in the kitchen, hugging everyone before pitching in. Saint and Porsha arrive hand in hand, looking picture-perfect in matching shades of blue.  Saint’s voice rings out from the front door. “Hey, wassup, y’all.”

Hearing him, everyone streams into the foyer, lighting up with joy.

Lillian pulls him into a tight hug. “Is that my other baby? Come here, Saint, and hug your  mama!”

Saint grins. “Hey, Ma. I could smell dinner from the driveway, and it smelled so good.” “Thank you, baby.”

The family greets Porsha warmly, and their affection is genuine. Saint’s deception about this pregnant girl he’s claiming as his own is working. No one seems to suspect a thing. Naomi teases him as they hug. “Yasss, my partner in crime is finally here. Hey, brother.” “Hell yeah, I’m in the house!” Saint laughs, then eyes her playfully. “Damn, Naomi, you’re  looking good tonight.”

Naomi smiles. “You look good too, little brother.”

Keenan Jr. joins the banter, throwing an arm around Saint. “He better look good. He’s always  working; that’s why we can never reach him. And don’t forget, Saint, I’ll see you next week to work  on your grant.”

“Cool, big bro. I’ll be there.”

The siblings joke and laugh with each other as Kennedy climbs into Saint’s lap, giggling. Lillian  watches from the dining room doorway, her heart full—until she hears Keenan Sr. coming down the  stairs. Her cheerful smile fades.

Keenan Sr. enters the dining room, greeting the family with his booming voice. “Now the party  can start. You’re all here. I’m so glad to see each of you.”

The family all hugs him, except Lillian, who remains in the doorway. She silently observes as he  takes his place at the table. When the oven timer dings, she excuses herself. “I’ll be right back. The  bread is ready.”

“I’ll help you,” Taylor says, following her into the kitchen.

Keenan Sr. addresses the table, his tone cheerful. “It’s wonderful to have everyone here tonight  to celebrate with Lillian and me.”

When Lillian returns with cornbread and rolls, Keenan Sr. takes her hand tenderly. “It was  thirty-five years yesterday since we said our vows, and we couldn’t be happier to share this joyous  milestone with the people we love most. Right, Lillian?”

Before she can respond, the doorbell rings. Keenan Jr. and Saint start to rise, but Lillian waves  them off. “No, no, boys. Sit. Y’all start your dinner. I got the door.”

She returns moments later with a manila envelope in hand. Standing beside Keenan Sr., she  addresses the table. Her heart pounds in her chest, but her face remains calm and unreadable. “Keenan was right earlier. We are so glad all of you are here tonight to share our thirty-fifth  wedding anniversary with us.”

Her eyes drop to her husband, her smile vanishing. “We’ve had good times, Keenan. Bad times,  too. But we made it… until now.”

Porsha excuses herself quickly, taking Kennedy with her to the restroom.

Lillian then waits for the room to quiet before continuing. “You are a liar and a cheat, Keenan.  You sit here acting like everything is perfect, but you didn’t bother to tell them that you spent our  actual anniversary with that whore in Chestnut Hill!”

Keenan Sr. stiffens. “Lillian, would you sit down? This isn’t the time.”

Her voice rises. “When is the time, Keenan? Last night, you were with her. You came home this  morning smelling like pussy and went into court that way! You even walked into this house reeking  of—”

Keenan Jr. tries to intervene. “Mama, please—”

“Don’t you ‘Mama’ me! Your daddy came home smelling like pussy and didn’t even speak to  me!”

Naomi interjects, “And y’all say I’m drama.”

Lillian cuts her off. “This ain’t about you, Naomi, so stay out of it!”

Keenan Sr. glares at her. “You are impossible, Lillian. A goddamn madwoman.” Unfazed at how mad he is, Lillian slams the envelope onto the table. “That’s a divorce decree.  My attorney worked on it all month. Now, you’re done here, Keenan.”

The room falls silent. Keenan Sr. looks around, his face twisted with anger and disbelief as Lillian’s voice cuts through the tension. “Get up, go upstairs, pack your things, and get out of my damn house! For good.”

The family stares around the table at each other, dumbfounded, as Lillian finishes. “Go,  Keenan. Now!”

Excerpt

Alone

We were pulling back in teams of two after a raid on a village, and I wondered aloud in the gray night, “Why do they fight?” I wasn’t expecting an answer, but my partner drew close.

“Perhaps to protect their homes.”

I didn’t understand. “Home?”

She glanced at me with sadness in her eyes. “Home is your family.”

I still didn’t understand. “Family?”

“Those you love.”

“Love?”

We walked on in thoughtful silence for a moment, and her eyes were distant when she answered quietly, “Love is something worth dying for.” We continued walking, then she paused and put a hand on my shoulder. “Worth living for.”

Quotes

“Love is something worth dying for... worth living for.”

“We are Galach; we are warriors.”

“My blood is your blood.”

“We are one, you and I.”

“The idea of freedom burned in me more fiercely than my hunger to kill.”

“I was going to be free, no matter what it cost.”

"He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life." — John 14:6

FOREWORD

Joe Bill Campbell was my professional mentor and law partner four decades ago. He had mentors, too, from his early years as a law-yer, godly men and great lawyers like Reginald Ayers (Protestant) and Justice Charles Reynolds (Catholic), whom he quoted often to me. He passed along their advice as earthly gospel, stories of honesty and integ-rity and superior legal ability. We talked a little back then, but not a lot, about faith and religion and God. Mostly, we would discuss and handle our clients’ cases. However, he always advised and encouraged a posi-tive way forward; and in hindsight, I can see those paths were formed by Christian morals and righteousness. “OK, John, now move on,” he once told me after I complained about the sharp practice of a particular lawyer in a particular case, and he meant, “what are you going to do now to resolve that case in a fair way?”

Joe Bill handled many big cases, some with significant wider

consequence in affecting the development of the law, some with sig-nificant public interest, and most with significant consequence to the litigants. He pursued his clients’ interest realistically and with confi-dence and was always looking forward. He advised Governors closely, and worked on boards and commissions, including as the president of the Kentucky Bar Association. He spent his early and middle years solving the problems outside the window. Later, like many thoughtful and experienced people do, he shifted his focus to personal sanctity. Many professionals start and spend most of their years solving the world’s problems, at least the world around us, perhaps because they are easier to solve.

Now, at age 82, Joe Bill speaks often of his faith and Jesus Christ’s

place in his life, not because of any negative piety (as he describes in his Introduction), but from a lifetime of experience, good and bad, and a realization that the time has come to leave nothing unsaid.

The great theologian John Calvin (who studied to be a lawyer)

believed that government, including laws and our judicial system, are gifts from God; and that God’s laws and man-made laws and systems are not antithetical to each other. To the contrary, the just pursuit of the latter is necessary for the realization of the former. Lawyers and judges have a great responsibility to pursue justice and peace and a more per-fect union. The adversarial nature of our legal system does not negate these goals as long as its participants play by “the rules.”

In Kentucky, like most states, we have Rules of Professional

Conduct, and a Code of Professional Courtesy. Lawyers’ responsibili-ties as advocates for their clients, as officers of the legal system, and as public citizens are usually harmonious. But sometimes those respon-sibilities seem to conflict with one another, and “such issues must be resolved through the exercise of sensitive professional and moral judg-ment, guided by the basic principles underlying the rules of professional conduct. Those rules prescribe a “courteous and civil attitude towards all persons involved in the legal system.” (SCR 3.130 IX-X)

The rules require confidence, diligence, and communications;

they demand candor, and meritorious claims and contentions, fairness to opposing parties and impartiality of the tribunal, truthfulness, fair-ness with opposing counsel and unrepresented parties, and respect for the rights of third persons. All of these basic principles, which are gifts from God, allow an adversarial system, and a conflicted world, to func-tion harmoniously in the pursuit of truth and justice. These basic prin-ciples on which our rules are founded, of course, are really Christian principles, which certainly apply to all walks of life, and which are encouraged in this book.

All lawyers, including Joe Bill and me, are imperfect people and

sinners who can do better. Jesus came to save lawyers (and others), not to condemn them (John 3: 17), by promulgating the Golden Rule of “do to others as you would want them to do to you.” Joe Bill wanted me to be smart, fearless, courageous, honest, fair, by adhering to principle rather than to the whims of perception. None of us get this right every day, but this book of devotionals might help keep us on tract.

Interpretations of scripture differ, and Joe Bill would have no hard

quarrel with that. Here in this book, however, he gives insight and argu-ment for Jesus Christ’s bridge to life in the practice of law and elsewhere. You might suggest another analysis of one of these basic principles. Good! Just think about it, justify it, cite your authority and sources. But know that there is an objective truth to the big questions, and not just a subjective standard. This book, at the very least, gives us a chance to grapple with our beliefs and hopefully arrive at The Truth. There is such a thing. We each do not get to determine that truth but, rather, just to discover it.

As the great philosopher and lawyer, Sir Thomas Moore (as quoted

in this book) prayed, “Lord…stand beside me in court, so that today I shall not, in order to win a point, lose my soul.”

Whether speaking to attorneys, business professionals, churches, Bible study groups, young athletes, or anyone seeking spiritual encouragement, Joe Bill Campbell reminds readers that success is measured not only by earthly accomplishments but by faithfully following Jesus Christ—the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Through every devotional, Joe Bill's mission remains the same: to honor his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and fulfill God's purpose for his life by helping others discover the joy, wisdom, and peace that come from living according to God's Word.
