I feel dizzy. I accepted his offer. Axel Stone's outrageous offer of ten grand. Yeah, the club takes their cut, but I still end up with a lot. I would have slept with him for nothing. He's all kinds of swoony, and I’ve thought about him a lot since our coffee chat in my breakroom on Monday. But as I walk toward him now, I can barely breathe. I'm lightheaded in a way I have never been before. In a room full of crazy-beautiful woman, why would he choose me? If Maeve didn't have me hooked by the arm, directing me through the mix of people, I would be stuck on the spot still gaping like a cod.

We come to a stop just before him and his equally good-looking friend. His stance is powerful, and in that charcoal suit, he's the type of guy that in any normal club would have a swam of scantily clad woman trying for his attention. I have to wonder why he needs to pay for the company of anyone.

His stare over me is commanding, and I peer up at him through long dark lashes, wondering what on earth he thinks of this version of me. I'm waxed and plucked and made up to perfection, with fake lashes and all; even I have to admit that when they finished with me, I was glowing with a sexy kind of radiance I didn't even know I had in me. And the dress that Maeve lent me, it's insane, all shimmery silver with a low back and mini skirt. I'm at a loss for what to say to him in this very unique situation, so I offer a shy smile instead. I had trouble talking to him normally, but like this now… I'm screwed.

Maeve has dropped my arm and is chatting to his friend in her usual flirtatious manner when a hot guy is around. She appears to know him. I'm guessing, by the way she touches his arm and hangs on his every word. I have to wonder how many men here she knows intimately.

Axel leans in closer, dropping his mouth to my ear. I'm grateful he’s happy to start the conversation. "I thought you were the good sister," he whispers, his question playful, and it sends a shiver through me. The good sister. That was me.

I swallow the lump that has formed in my throat and try to find my voice. "Maybe I want to try something new for a while. See how it fits. Being good was getting me nowhere." As the words leave my lips, I know I'm playing a dangerous game, but I'm beyond caring. I'm committed to this now. Even standing here before this sexy man, all dolled up like this, is making me feel more alive than I have in such a long time. I want to go down the rabbit hole that is this strange new world and see where it gets me. Good or bad, I want the experience.

"That sounds like a very good idea, gorgeous." His eyes flash with dark lust, and I feel my insides clench. "Would you like another drink?" he offers.

I kind of get it, and if that is his way of coping, then I can be that for him. In a way I think he will be that for me as well. My gap year from trying to find the love of my life. It's clearly not going to be him, so this is just about enjoying myself, saying goodbye to my ideals and inhibitions and having a little sexy fun. This is exactly what I need.

He rubs his hands up and down my arms, trying to comfort me. I look up at him. "Why are you helping me?"

"Because you need a hand. I would do the same for anyone if they were as down on their luck as you. It's the way I’ve been brought up, and my parents would kill me if I didn't. It's what us Walkers do." He cups my face, running his thumb over my lip. It sends a thrill right through my body. His touch is electric, energising, and I don't know if it's the adrenaline rush, but I want this man so badly I can taste it.

I bite the inside of my mouth to stop myself from acting on my impulse and just kissing him. He lowers his hands and laces our fingers together. "And I told you earlier, you're someone important to me, I know it already."

He grins. "What's your real name? I can't introduce you to my parents in the morning as Bambi."

He smiles and pulls me into his chest, and I let him. I need to feel the comfort of another human. After everything I’ve been through, the warmth of his body and the small gesture of a hug and knowing someone in this fucked-up world actually cares enough to go out of their way for me, it means everything.

While we stand in his parents' front yard, his arms wrapped around me, I go over his words in my head. You're someone important to me. Such a strange thing for him to say when we have literally just met, but I can feel it too. He's going to be someone important in my life as well.

I take another sip of my coffee and almost spit it straight back out when I see him standing right in front of the window where we’re sitting. Cheeky, dimply grin and all. I cough to stop myself from choking.

"Are you alright?" asks Mia, giving me a concerned look.

I nod my head, turning away from the window. "Yeah, sorry, just went down the wrong way." I try to catch my breath.

"Yeah, or it's because you just spotted that sexy son of a bitch you were with last night." She hits me on the arm.

"No, that's not it." I shake my head, trying to look extra convincing.

"Oh, good, because he’s coming our way." She smirks. She is loving watching me squirm. She knows how terrible I am with guys. "Lucky you look extra hot today in that cute outfit."

I look down at what I'm wearing. Oh, hell no. I'm sitting here in just my fitted shorts and sports top. I was so hot after class I didn't even throw on my jacket. I look around for my zip-up hoody, but I must have left it in the studio. Damn it.

"Jenna," comes his familiar deep voice.

I swivel in my chair to face him. He is as hot as ever in a pale blue T-shirt and faded jeans. How can he make something so simple look so unbelievably gorgeous? "Drew." I offer a small smile. I feel so awkward today. I have lost all my courage now that I'm sober.

He looks between me and Mia. "Sorry, this is a friend of mine, Mia. She owns the dance studio where I teach a class." He raises a brow in my direction and holds out his hand for her to shake.

"Hi, Drew, aren't you just yummy," she says.

Oh, my God, she didn't just say that. I shake my head at her.

"Hi, nice to meet you, Mia." He smiles, removing his hand from her grip. He's being all charming. He knows he's hot. He probably gets that kind of reaction all the time.

I narrow my eyes at her, giving her the signal not to say anything to embarrass me in front of him any further. She is so forward, she and Penny would get on like crazy; glad they’ve never met, that would be all too much. "Mia," I growl at her.

She shrugs it off. "What, he is." She pats the empty seat between us. "You should join us, Drew. Jenna was just telling me all about last night. What are the chances of you running into each other twice in two days? This must be fate. Do you believe in fate, Drew?" She tilts her head, waiting for his response.

I give her a filthy look. Why did she just say that?

He looks uncomfortable, and of course he is. Who wouldn't be right now? I know I am. "Yeah, I'm not sure about fate, but it's pleasantly unexpected," he says, his eyes dropping to me again. The way he looks at me has my lady parts throbbing with desire. I want to taste what he has to offer so badly.

I swallow the lump in my throat. Sure, it must be my turn to talk. I have no idea how long I have been just staring at him, probably with my mouth open, drooling. "I'm sure Drew has better things to do with his afternoon than listen to you jibber jabber on about nonsense."

His eyes roam up my body slowly; he's taking in every inch of me. I'm sure he's probably wondering why I'm half naked, sitting in a coffee shop. Why didn't I bring my jacket? "That's okay, I have nothing on for a bit, I'll just go order. I'd love to hear your opinion on fate, Mia." He walks to the counter and places an order.

I hit Mia on the arm. "Why did you do that to me?" I cry dramatically.

"Oh, come on, you two are adorable. I'm just helping my shy little friend finally get lucky after all these years. You can thank me later."
