EXCERPT

“She’s always with tutor boy.” I bristled. Darcy’s name was becoming a regular mention in our conversation. I fucking hated it, but it wasn’t like I could complain, not when Asher was right. I was spending more time with the team than Felicity. But it was only for another few weeks. Once the season was over, things would settle. We could be us again.
“Dude, you’re not seriously jealous about a guy who enjoys talking about animal science all day?”
“You’re forgetting that Felicity also likes talking about that stuff.”
“He’s her tutor. You’re her... person.”
Cameron chuckled. “He’s right, you know. You and Felicity are going the distance. All couples have highs and lows.”
“Well being in a low fucking sucks.”
“You’re still... doing it, right?”
I gawked at Asher. “What are we, five?”
“I’m just trying to help.” He shrugged.
“Yeah, well maybe we should change the subject.” Dissecting my relationship with Felicity was making me cranky.
“If you make it as one of the Heisman finalists, we can take a trip to New York for the weekend to celebrate.”
“Seriously, Ash, the chances of me getting shortlisted are almost non-existent.” I rubbed my jaw.
“Still, I’ll ask my old man if we can reserve the penthouse for the weekend. That way, even if you don’t shortlist, we can still go, but it can be a commiseration instead of a celebration.” A shit-eating grin tugged at his mouth.
“There’s something very wrong with you,” I grumbled.
“But you love me.”
Yeah, I did. He might have been like sunshine on a fucking rainy day, but Asher was my best friend. Cameron too. Almost fifteen months had passed since we left Rixon for college, but they were still my guys.
Always would be.
He pulled out his cell phone and I frowned. “What are you doing?”
“Texting my dad.”
Cameron smothered a chuckle and I rolled my eyes. “Of course you are.”

Excerpt

“It’s a beautiful night,” I said from the shadows.
“Nicco?” She glanced around, searching for me. When her eyes landed on me standing by the corner of the building, she stood up. “What do you want?”
“Ahh, Bambolina.” I let out a weary sigh. “That is a loaded question.”
“Humor me.” Lina took a step closer. The moonlight danced off the soft features of her face.
Jesus, she was so fucking beautiful.
“I want to kiss you.” I inched toward her, unable to resist the magnetic pull I felt whenever I was around her. “I want to finish what we started earlier. I want to feel you beneath me, hear you cry my name.”
I want to make you mine.
“You couldn’t get away from me fast enough earlier.” Her confused gaze cut me like a thousand tiny blades over my skin.
“It’s not what you think,” I said, moving closer still. Lina mirrored my movements until we were standing in front of each other.
Until she was close enough to touch.
“What’s happening to us, Nicco?” she whispered. “Why do I feel like this?”
“What do you feel like?” I brushed the hair off her neck. She had a thick hoodie pulled over her body, but I was still able to stroke the skin beneath her ear. Lina’s eyes drifted closed as she inhaled a shaky breath.
“I look for you when you’re not there. I feel you when you’re close. I can’t get you out of my head.” Her eyes opened again, fixing on mine. She smiled and it was like a bolt of lightning to my heart.
This girl.
This innocent sweet girl was ruining me.

Excerpt

“You look good on my bike,” I said.
And that I fucking meant.
“Thanks for the ride.”
I tucked the helmet into my chest and gave her a small nod. “You should go inside.” My eyes flicked beyond her to the door.
“I think I’ll have to go around front.”
“Your key operates both doors.”
“Oh, okay.” Lina rocked on her kitten heeled boots. I couldn’t resist letting my eyes sweep down her body again. She was everything I could never have.
Everything I’d never wanted.
Until now.
I swallowed, lifting my gaze to hers. “Go on.”
“Goodnight, Nicco.” Lina smiled.
“Goodnight.”
She didn’t move. Her eyes didn’t leave me even for a second. Slowly, she walked over to me and slid her hand against my face. “Thank you, for coming to my rescue again.” There was a playful lilt in her voice.
“Anytime, Bambolina.” I smirked but it was wiped away when Lina leaned in, her lips brushing my cheek. She hesitated just for a second, but it was enough for me to turn my head and let my lips slide against hers.
Rookie. Fucking. Mistake.
The moment I tasted her, everything shifted. All I could think about now was pulling her down on my bike and devouring her. She tasted too good. Too tempting.
She tasted like my fucking downfall.
“Nicco.” My name was a whisper against my lips as I ran my tongue against the seam of her mouth. My hand slid into Lina’s hair, anchoring her to me as I kissed her deeper, harder. Her body shuddered, a soft sigh getting lost between us. I wanted to paint her skin with my lips, brand every inch of her. This wasn’t even a real kiss. It was fleeting and cautious. But I already knew I wanted more.
I wanted everything this girl—this stranger—had to give.
“What are you doing?” she whispered when I paused, my lips hovering over the corner of her mouth. “Nicco, what are—”
I jerked back as if I’d been struck by lightning. “You should go, Lina. I’ll wait until you’re inside.”
“I see.” Her lips thinned as she stepped back, putting a thousand miles between us, the invisible tether between us almost snapping. “Well, I guess I’ll be going then.” She didn’t hesitate this time. Lina walked away from me with her head held high, without so much as a backward glance.
It was no less than I deserved, but it hurt all the same.
I wanted her.
I wanted Lina the way I’d never wanted another girl before. But I couldn’t be that guy. I couldn’t give her hearts and flowers and romance.
I couldn’t be the prince she deserved, because my life wasn’t a fairytale.
It was the stuff nightmares were made of.
