“Hi,” I squeaked, my cheeks becoming even redder. I was still trying to get over the shock of how breathtakingly handsome this guy was.

He grinned, and my heart skipped a beat. Oh, boy; I was in so much trouble with him.

“See something you like?” he asked cockily.

Oh, jeez. Lord, please help me.

I scoffed. “No.” But I didn’t think my voice was strong enough because he only rolled his eyes, his grin widening.

“Right. I’ll pretend you weren’t just checking me out.”

I glared at him, now slightly peeved which toned down some of the attraction I was feeling towards him. “I didn’t see anything I liked,” I snapped at him. He arched an eyebrow at me, his smile falling from his face. I shoved my hands into the pockets of my hoodie so he wouldn’t see them beginning to tremble. He was intimidating when he wasn’t smiling and flirting.

“I'm sorry,” I blurted. That eyebrow stayed arched as he grabbed the handle of one of my suitcases, his eyes never leaving my face. “I shouldn’t have been rude. I had a horrible day yesterday, and today has proven to be no better.”

He looked shocked that I had actually apologized, which made me frown. I knew I kind of looked like a snobby, rich kid, but that didn’t mean I acted like one. Besides, if his mom actually knew mine, then he probably knew the money my parents had. I couldn’t really blame him if he made that kind of assumption about me. Most people did.

“Hey,” he shrugged, “it’s no problem.” I reached down to grab my carry-on, but he quickly took it from me, shouldering it. “I’ll take care of these for you,” he told me, that smile back on his face that made my heart flutter. “Don’t want you having an even worse day,” he teased, lightening the mood. It even brought a smile to my face.

“I don't mean to sound stupid or anything,” I began, making him look over his shoulder at me as we walked towards the exit, “but my mom told me I was staying at her friend’s place, but I wasn’t told much else.”

He laughed. “My mom figured something like this was going to happen.” I relaxed a little. “You are staying with your mom's friend – my mom – so you'll also be staying with me.”

I stumbled a little, my eyes wide in disbelief.

I was going to need a lot of help to get through this summer living with a boy as sinfully gorgeous as Xavier.

Now in 2021, she has published her first series that takes place in a town just like the one she lives in!

He sighed, dragging a hand through his already ruffled, blonde hair. “I would have taken the bullet for you,” he eventually muttered.

“Easy for you to say now, but you don’t even know me, Xavier. We’ve been dating all of one day, and now, you’re willing to take a bullet for me? Do you understand how insane you sound?” I crossed my arms over my chest to protect myself from the hurt and rage flickering across his face.

We were having our first fight.

“I care about you a hell of a lot, darlin’. Don’t dismiss my feeling for you. I’m a man of my word.” He reached his hand forward, but I pulled back. I would give in to his sweet words and charming drawl if I felt his touch.

“I think we’re moving too fast,” I blurted. “This is crazy.”

“I’m crazy about you,” he shrugged, “but yeah, we can slow things down. I understand, baby.” My gut twisted at the soft term of endearment aimed at me.

“I don’t want to fall in love with you only to have my heart broken by another person.” I looked away from him, finding more interest in the dirt road than his intense gaze. His thumb grazed my bottom lip, pulling my eyes back to him in a flash.

"You listen to me, darlin'. I ain't gonna break that beautiful heart of yours; I ain't a piece of scum. I'm a cowboy – we fall hard for our women, and we love 'em just as hard. We never let 'em go, you hear me?"

I nodded my head, taken aback by the conviction in his tone. He meant every word. He planned on falling in love with me. I was speechless. No one had ever been so straightforward with me before.

“I love you, Celine.”

Tears welled in my eyes at the adoration in my husband’s eyes. Sometimes, I knew this man was too good to be true.

“I love you, Ace, with my entire heart.” We reached for each other, our hands meeting halfway across the table and connecting, fitting together perfectly just like they always had. Ace Danvers would always be my soul mate, and I would always be his.

He didn’t let go of my hand as he paid the bill and then walked us out to our cars. We stood at my big, white SUV. He leaned into me, pushing my body against the hot car, his hands planted on the window, caging me in, but I never minded being this man’s prisoner.

“You know better than to put handprints on my window,” I whispered against his lips, closing my eyes just in time for his lips to crash against mine.

Time had made him more demanding. He didn’t ask for permission anymore. He just claimed, but I didn’t mind. This man owned me.

Biting my bottom lip, he soothed the sting with a brush of his tongue before parting my lips, tangling his tongue with mine, assaulting my senses. I moaned against his lips, my hands gripping the front of his shirt.

It didn’t matter that we were in broad daylight, nor did I mind the sweat dripping down the side of my face or my sundress sticking to my body like a second skin. None of it bothered me. All that mattered was the passion between me and my man.

If the world crashed and burned around us, I knew I would be okay because I had him—my rock, my hero, my Ace.

We’d been through hell, and now, it was time for our happily ever after.

I pulled away from his demanding lips to gasp for breath. I leaned my head against his chest, feeling his chest rise and fall, his heart beating as rapidly as mine. Years later, we still had the same effects on each other that we did when we first met.

“I just want a calm summer with you and our kids. I don’t care what we do as long as I spend the summer with you,” I told him. His arms banded around me, crushing me against him as he sought my lips out again.
