Reading Now: Mr. Almost by Cala Riley

What are you reading now?

I chose Mr. Almost by Cala Riley.  This is one of the books I was most excited for, but I do not think I listed it in a post.

Put yourself in Olivia's shoes.  She has a one-night stand, but she believes Mason does not want anything to do with her.  First, I would not believe whatever I am told.  I would find a way to speak with Mason myself.  I can not wait to find out what happens!!

I received an ARC copy of the e-book for an honest review of this book.

Happy Reading!
Melissa

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Olivia
Four years ago my entire life changed.
A one-night stand turned into the best thing that ever happened to me.
Too bad Mason didn’t feel the same.
Now struggling to keep my head above water, I take on a temp job at the same hotel that changed my life.
I never thought I would see him again, but then he walks in. They say lightning rarely strikes twice, so why do I feel like I’ve been struck once again?
Mason
Four years ago she disappeared into the wind without a trace to be found.
I never thought that I would want more from a woman until I met Olivia.
I only wish she had felt the same.
So when I see her standing behind the reception desk in my hotel, I’m amazed.
Only, she wants nothing to do with me and I can’t figure out why.
Can I break down her walls and get her to trust me enough to give us a real shot?

Reading Now: Hot Summer Mess by Melissa Foster

                                                            What are you reading now?

I am reading Hot Summer Mess by Melissa Foster. I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is my first book I have read by Melissa Foster and this really surprised me.  I love stories focused around single moms and dads.  This one has 2 single divorced parents.  Both with not wanting to be hurt again by the opposite sex.  Can they put their past heartache aside so they can find happiness?  I can not wait to find out!!  Be sure to read the description below this beautiful currently reading photo and pre-order this book from your favorite book store.  Hot Summer Mess comes out October 17, 2023.

Happy Reading!
Melissa

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
From the New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster comes a funny, sexy romantic comedy featuring a twice-divorced, stressed-out romance writer who finds out that sometimes true love can be a hot mess.

Who buys a cottage in a New England fishing village on a whim? A stressed-out, twice-divorced romance writer and single mother looking for a fresh start, that’s who. Despite what my besties say about my three-year dry spell, I’m not looking for a man. Or drama. Or sex. I’ve got enough on my plate with writer’s block and a daughter who refuses to grow up. Community. That’s what I need. Unfortunately, it seems the universe has other ideas. Either Chatemup, Massachusetts, has a serious shortage of single women, or I’ve become a hot mess magnet for the male species.

At least I’ve found one funny, good-hearted friend: fish peddler Declan Miller, my brainstorming adventure buddy who stirs my creative juices. I’m his Writer Girl. He’s my Dimple Dude. Just scruffy, granite-chested, deep-voiced, ex-military brawn who happens to be—oh, Nicole, what are you doing to yourself?—stoking a long-neglected fire without even trying.

A self-confessed hot mess, divorced single dad Declan is too old for relationship games. Not interested. Same here. So why do I keep thinking about him? Preferably naked. Because I’m a hot mess, too? At least he’s inspiring me to write. If only real life were like one of my novels. At least then I’d have a better idea of how this was going to end.

Reading Now: The Scout by Carina M. Rose

  What are you reading now?

I am reading The Scout by Carina M. Rose.

I just started it this morning while we were waiting for my son's doctor to see him.  Ethan has a concussion and this post is a day late.  When we were in the ER on Friday night, I did start a new series, Chicago Steel, by Jessica Buss, but The Scout is due in the beginning of October,  So, I am going from hockey to baseball.

The Scout is about a single mom having to come face to face to the man she loved in high school and the father of her son, but he does not know that.  I love single mom Thorpes mixed in with high school sweethearts, who went their separate ways after high school. So, many questions I have.  How will Cash react to the news of having a son?  How is Hannah going to react to Cash's reaction?  How is her son going to handle this secret of hers?  Will he hate his mom?

I received an ARC copy of the e-book for an honest review of this book.

Below is the description and go check this e-book out.  It is out on October 3,

Check out the description for The Scout by Carina M. Rose below.

Happy Reading

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Hannah

I suppose it was unfair of me to assume Cash Jameson would be my forever. The golden boy of Blossom Berry Falls went from high school baseball star to the major leagues. Then he broke my heart.

So many times I wanted to tell him about our son, but fate stepped in, and years went by. Being a single mom has been my biggest accomplishment. Though it hasn’t always been easy, the joys of being a mom have granted meaning to the pain of losing Cash.

Now, fifteen years later, we meet again thanks to our high school reunion's alumni baseball game. Cash had no way of knowing that the young pitcher who struck him out was his son. But after he showed up at the door scouting the ace for the major leagues, I have no doubt he experienced the shock of his life.

Cash

Saying goodbye to Hannah was the hardest thing I’d ever done. Afraid of causing more pain, I never intended to set foot back in Blossom Berry Falls. Yet the draw of the alumni baseball game . . . and the chance to see Hannah again . . . were too powerful to resist.

After spotting Hannah in the stands, my heart sparked to life. I’d thought of her over the years but heard she’d moved on. Rather than harp on what could have been, I focused on the future—namely, the kid with the nasty curveball.

His control reminded me of myself at that age. Turned out there was a good reason for that . . . the young prodigy was the son I never knew I had. I’d missed so much of his life and refused to miss more.

Could the three of us be a family? Or were the wounds of our past too deep to heal?

Reading Now: Mariëtte Whitcomb & Jessica Myel

  What are you reading now?

I am reading 2 books right now.  Normally I do not do this.

I started reading Wild Fire by Jessica Myel prior to getting the ARC for Death Isn't Enough.  Once I got it, I went to reading Death Isn't Enough because it's due date is before Wild Fire. but when I am waiting to pick up my son or husband from work and I am sitting in a dark car alone in a parking lot, I can not get myself to read Death Isn't Enough by Mariëtte Whitcomb (Sorry Mariëtte!) .

I love the Wild Series by Jessica Myel.  There are 4 books in this series.  If you love small town romance with cowboys, then check this series out on Kindle Unlimited.  I read the first 3 on KU.

I have been getting into more books like Death Isn't Enough.  It intrigues me to figure out all of the questions: why, who, when, where, and how.  I can not wait to read more in this book to find out all of those questions.  I have read other books by Mariëtte Whitcomb and I loved her books.

So, what are you reading today? Please share.  Below the gray line are the book descriptions for each book with links.

Happy Reading!

Book #1
Wild Fire by Jessica Myel

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Love is Useless.

Lacey Donahue
They say judgment comes in many forms, and I experienced it on a stage most of my life. I was judged on my looks and my ability to perform. Then I finally saw my way out, and I took it. I didn’t care what the cost was. I had hoped leaving pageantry behind would give me the freedom I had always longed for. For the first time, I would have the chance to make my own decisions. Then my parents arranged a marriage between me and a stern cowboy to settle their debt that no amount of money could pay. But looks can be deceiving, and freedom must be won, so I would fight until it was mine, no matter the cost.

Colby West
I pride myself on my pragmatism and foresight. My goal always has been and always will be to continue my family’s legacy. I chose to launch West Ranch into its next era. Everything was working just as I planned. Then I missed a payment. I had a plan, but then the terms changed. In my haste to figure out how to pay it as quickly as possible, I was presented with an option that would give me the time I needed to catch up —marriage. I had never given it, or love, any thought. I found it useless. Regardless, I would not be marrying for love. I would be marrying to fix the problem.

What I didn’t see coming was a formidable woman full of resilience that would not only shake my carefully laid plans. But change them and show me a better way, because the cost was higher than I or my family could pay.

Book #2
Death Isn't Enough by Mariëtte Whitcomb
Here is a brief description from Goodreads:

Noa Morgan worked hard to put the past and Emily behind her. Not that she remembers much about the forty days she spent in captivity.

When Noa realises she is being stalked, she knows it’s him. Despite everything she’s done, he’s found her. And now he’s killing innocent women, leaving an item at each crime scene still vivid in her memory.

With the body count rising, Noa can no longer hide the truth from her new friends. Not if she wants to keep them alive.

The worst part is … that Emily died for nothing.

Reading Now: The Setup by Kristen Proby

 What are you reading now?

I am reading The Setup by Kristen Proby.

I received an ARC copy of the e-book for an honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
I’m a sucker for pretty things. Give me a roaring engine in a souped-up vintage muscle car with cherry red paint and brand-new leather interior, and that’s about as pretty as anything I could ask for. I’m a simple man, who doesn’t need or want the kind of wild celebrity that my father has. I restore one-of-a-kind vehicles and sell them to the highest bidder. Usually, that bidder just also happens to be a celebrity.

But no matter how often my cars steal the spotlight, staying out of it is my number one priority.

Which is why Sydney Sterling is absolutely out of the question.

She’s a country music superstar. She’s in the spotlight. People can’t get enough of her.

Reading Now: Memories from the Past by S.L. Sterling

                                                           What are you reading now?

I am reading Memories from the Past by S.L. Sterling.   This is book #1 in The Willow Valley Series.  Trinity and Thomas are high school sweethearts, but he decided to leave their small town the summer after graduation and join the Rodeo circuit.  How will Trinity feel when Thomas is in front of her after all those years?  Will her anger from him leaving ever leave her?  I can not wait to find out!!

I am 72% into the book and I plan to finish it by tomorrow so I can start on the next book, The Holiday Dilemma.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I received an ARC copy of the e-book for an honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Thomas was the love of my life, or he was supposed to be. Instead, he became the guy who broke my heart, crushed my spirit, the last guy I ever dated, and the reason I never wanted to date again.

All this, I decided at seventeen, right after we graduated, which coincided with the day he left. He had his truck packed. We'd talked about running off together, eloping. Instead, Thomas explained he was leaving, joining the rodeo, and I could come if I wanted.

If I wanted!

I thought we shared a dream, but it didn't include running off to join the western equivalent of a circus. Not with him. Not with anyone. I knew better.

So, he left, and I decided to make a life on my own.

I spent the next few months learning all I could about the small bookstore my aunt owned. I gradually took over as she aged, until one morning she woke and announced that she was ready to retire. She had picked a retirement community nearby, she wanted to relax, sleep in and hang out with the old people, like herself.

I'd begun to clean up the place, sorting through boxes of books she'd packed away and began setting them out. I'd let people make me an offer since I was short on space. That was when Thomas appeared. His father had passed, and the community was buzzing with rumors that he had returned to sell the property.

He'd come in looking for a good read or so he claimed. Instead I shoved a book at him and told him to take it. I hoped I'd never see him again, but I was wrong. He returned, with the book, his note told me to read the book and I'd understand. So, I read it, and I understood nothing.

It was Aunt Vi's diary. She too had never stopped pining for a cowboy who left her behind.

Maybe he thought he was saving me. Perhaps I missed what I was supposed to understand all together. All I knew was that I didn't want to face him. One look at him told me it would be all to easy to fall into those strong arms again and I knew I still loved him, even if he didn't love me in return.

Reading Now: Rain by A.L. Woods

 What are you reading now?

I am reading Rain by A.L. Woods.  This is book #1 in the Into the Storm series.  I am so intrigued with Allegra.  Who will she choose?  Dom?  The bad boy who can't give her what she wants?  Or Nate? A breathe of fresh air that could her everything?

I purchased a copy of this e-book in April, 2023.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Allegra
I’m afraid of nothing and everything.
When that car accident changed my life twelve years ago—I thought it was over.
Dom saved me.
I used to think that I could save him, too.
He was the only one who could see me.
But then Nate came along and saw me, too.
One is my past.
Only one will be my future.
I want them both—only one of them can keep me.
Eventually, I’ll have to choose.
Even if it burns me alive.

Dom
A car accident nearly killed her.
So the monster became what she needed: a hero.
But little girls grow up to whisper I love you’s and forever’s.
I should have never touched my best friend’s little sister.
When my actions threatened her safety, I did the only thing I could think of: I married her behind her older brother’s back.
A fire and a five-year prison sentence changed everything.
She threw away our vows, so I plotted my revenge.
There was only one thing I didn’t factor in upon my release.
Him.

Nate
I’ve spent the last eleven years on the run from my past.
I bed unsuspecting women and rob them in their sleep.
My mistake was underestimating Allegra.
She beats me at my own game.
When circumstances find me at her mercy, I’m determined to erase the tattoo of her pretty hazel eyes and her body under mine from my memory.
But Allegra’s fire isn’t easily forgettable.
And I’m not the only one who feels that way.
We both want her.
Only one of us can keep her.
May the best man win.

Content and trigger warning: Rain has some elements of BDSM, metamour, kinky sex, and graphic violent scenes. It also contains scenes that depict domestic abuse, sexual assault, abuse of substances, religious references, discussions and idealizations of suicide, aquaphobia, and mental health issues.

I received an ARC copy of the e-book for an honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
There’s a fine line between love and hate.

In Huckleberry Bay, Oregon, everyone knows that when it comes to Juniper “June” Snow – what you see is what you get. When you hire her construction company to do a job, it’s done right, on time, and on budget. When she’s your friend, she’s a ride-or-die who will support you no matter what. And when you’re her enemy…well, she can hold a grudge.

Reading Now: Beyond the Thistles by Samantha Young

 What are you reading now?

I am reading Beyond the Thistles by Samantha Young.  This is an ARC I was given for a honest opinion.  I started this e-book 2 days ago & I am starting chapter 15.  I had a migraine last night and could not read like I wanted to.  When I sit down to read this more, I will be on my ipad.

A little bit about this book:

1. It is book #1 of the Highlands Series.

2. There are 3 books listed on Goodreads & Amazon.

3. A single mom on the run.

4. A Scottish bodyguard (do I need to say anything else?)

5. A must read

6. Read this description from Goodreads:

It’s been a long time since Walker Ironside left behind Scotland and the memories that haunt him. Yet after years of traveling the world as a bodyguard, Walker misses his homeland enough to return. To a village in the Scottish Highlands that plays host to an exclusive members-only club, Ardnoch Estate. If not happy, Walker is content working with the elite security at the club and maintaining his bachelor lifestyle. What he doesn’t need is distraction in the form of the enticing but too-young newcomer, single mother Sloane Harrow.

Sloane never imagined she’d get pregnant at sixteen. Or that a decade later she’d escape from California with her daughter, Callie, to start over in the Scottish Highlands. Hidden and safe from Callie’s dangerous father, Sloane is satisfied with their new lives. Her daughter is happy. Sloane has a stable job, a quaint cottage, a passion for baking that might just be turning into a business, and a huge crush on brooding security guard Walker Ironside. Unfortunately, the grumpy Scot seems immune to Sloane’s charm, but she can’t help but try to seduce him with cupcakes and baked treats whenever the opportunity arises.

However, when someone arrives in Ardnoch intent on destroying Sloane’s life, Walker is the first to step forward to protect her and Callie. Even if it means giving into temptation and awakening his own demons. Because in doing so, Walker faces failing not only to shield Sloane from her past, but to safeguard her against his own.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you read that description?  I sent the Amazon link to a friend last night & she preordered it!  I can not wait until I can sit down and read.  There are 44 chapter.  I will probably be in the 30s by tomorrow morning.

Happy Reading!
