Review: ACE: A Bad Boy Romance Part 1

For this review, I chose ACE: A Bad Boy Romance Part 1 by Frankie Love, which is the first book I have read by this author.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
❤️PART ONE OF A STEAMY NEW SERIAL❤️
ACE
I don't take women to bed.
I take them against the wall, hard and fast, and when I come I make sure they remember.
They always do.
I'm cocky as hell, but sh*t, I've got reason to be. I own Spades Royalle, the sexiest casino in Vegas. F*ck, the sexiest casino in the country.
I'm gonna keep building my empire all on my own - my ties with the mafia are in my past, buried with the bones of my family.
I like my money clean and my women dirty.
That is until I met Emmy Rose.
She says she doesn't want a bad boy.
I guess I'll have to change her pretty little mind.

EMMY ROSE

F*ck. My. Life.
I made one rule when I moved to Vegas two months ago - I would not screw bad boys. Or asshats. Or really anyone I met on the casino floor. And the thing is, I've made good on my promise.
I'm here for one reason, and one reason only: it's a f*cking job.
Landing in Vegas was never my plan. But plans change when your sister is in a coma and you don't know who put her there.
If only she'd wake up and I could get some answers.
Until then, I'll do everything in my power to avoid men who have a past as shady as my own.

Wow!  This was a great book!  I love how the author sets it up with the point of view of Emmy and Ace.  I loved that.  It was one of my favorite things in this book.  Another is how fast paced it was.  I did not realized I was at the end until I was there.  I was so disappointed and wanted a lot more.  The last thing is that this book is hot!  Great chemistry between Emmy and Ace.

I can not wait to read the rest of the books in this series.  According to Goodreads, there are 3 books.  This book was released January 11, 2016.  Part 2 was released January 15, 2016.  Part 3 was released January 20, 2016.

Review: Horse Play! 25 Crafts, Parties, & Activities for Horse-Crazy Kids

For this review, I chose Horse Play! 25 Crafts, Parties, & Activities for Horse-Crazy Kids by Deanna F. Cook & Katie Craig.

I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchanged for a honest review.

Here is a brief description from Netgalley:
A treasure trove of fun for every horse-loving girl! Horse Play! is packed with great activities and projects, from crafting a mini barn and pasture to designing your dream horse, sewing a pony pillow, making a shelf for model horses, and coloring a pull-out poster. Quizzes, checklists, and fill-in-the-blanks invite you to test your knowledge of horses, breeds, riding, and horse care. And this kit-in-a-book also includes stickers, a stencil, pop-out cards, and complete plans for a Horsing-Around party with games, invitations, a horse pinata, party grub, and must-watch horse movies!

When I saw this book available to review on Netgalley, I knew I had to see if I could get it.  My daughter, Ashleigh, is a huge horse lover.

My favorite craft is the horse shoe.  I want to do this for my daughter's room above her door.  The pony poster would be cute colored and framed.  The bookmarks are great for kids who love to read.  The horse party time is great and I wished I saw this before my daughter's 13th birthday party.  We had it where she rides horses.  All of her friends loved riding.  Some even for the first time.  Ashleigh has asked for another party there.  We have never done a theme movie night.  I love this idea that the movie night theme is about horses.

I wished this book had more crafts, but we loved it.

Review: Porcupette Finds a Family

For this review, I chose Porcupette Finds a Family by Vanita Oelschlager.

I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchanged for a honest review.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Porcupette Finds a Family, is a story about how a baby porcupine (called a porcupette) finds a new family after losing his mother. He wants to have an attachment to the bear family he finds, but is afraid his “bear” mother and “bear” brother and sister will leave him too. This causes him to act out his fears in
ways that jeopardize acceptance from his adopted family. However, with the understanding and help of Mother Bear, Porcupette finally accepts that he is truly loved and wanted despite, or maybe because of, his differences.

I read this book to my son, who will be 7 in a few days.  We both loved the illustrations and they so colorful and my son's attention during the entire book.  I loved the theme of this book.  Porcupette lost his mother and was worred that the Bear Mother would not accept him because he was different from the bear siblings.

Great book and I would love to read more books with my son by this author!

Review: Love in Plain Sight

For this review, I chose Love in Plain Sight by Nana Malone.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
FBI Agent Dylan Donovan is a man with a plan. Or at least he was. He had the girl, the job, the family until a split-second decision, to trade one life for another, turned his whole world upside down. With nothing left to lose, he’s ready to course correct…until he’s assigned to protect the impetuous and free-spirited Serafina Justice.

Sera is off men. With an overbearing mother and a bad news ex-boyfriend, all the lifestyle brand manager wants to do is focus on her job. She finally has a chance to be taken seriously when she’s chosen for a high profile project with a non-profit that helps troubled young girls—like she used to be. And she’s not going to blow it. What she doesn’t count on is one smokin’ hot, broody FBI agent trying to control her.

Good luck with that… she knows just how to handle bossy and overbearing—and there isn’t a man alive who’s going to mess up her plans.

I absolutely loved this book.    FBI Agent Dylan Donovan was called to protect Sera by her mother, who is a Senator, as a favor for the Senator.  So Dylan meets her in a bar.   Sera has sworn off men. Sera wants nothing to do with her mother and has been on her own for many years.  When Sera needed her mother, she was not available.

The characters were believable and the chemistry was hot between FBI Agent Dylan Donovan and Sera.  This is well written.  It has mystery, suspense, and romance all mixed together with a bit of family drama.  I love how strong Sera is and does not allow anything to stop her.

Review: For Seven Nights Only

For this review, I chose For Seven Nights Only by Sarah Ballance.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Kelsie Reed is over bad luck and bad men. Newly dumped, she’s now the pathetically single maid of honor in her sister's wedding—and her ex is the best man. Her bad luck continues when a plumbing meltdown in her apartment sends her sexy neighbor running to her rescue. He’s got "serial dater" written all over him, which is unfortunate because the man is hot.

Sawyer Chase loves women, but settling down? He’ll leave that to his brothers. But when Kelsie confesses she’s a dating disaster and is about to become the laughing stock of her family wedding, Sawyer takes control. He's got one week to teach her how to land the man of her dreams, and he’ll do it on her terms: no touching, no kissing, and definitely nothing more.

But some rules need to be broken, especially when, for once, there’s something on the line worth fighting for…

I loved this book.  It was not the normal he/she meet, have a relationship, then one does something to mess it up and they make up.  Kelsie is having issues with men.  Her ex has her messed up.  Mainly her self esteem is bad.  Now Kelsie has her sister's wedding where her ex is the best man and she is the maid of honor.  She has to find a date.

With a plumbing mess, her neighbor comes to her rescue.  Sawyer is gorgeous and a womanizer, who lets the woman know it can not go anywhere.  He comes to her rescue to help her land the man of her dreams.  7 dates.  Anything could happen during these 7 dates!

My favorite part of this book is the banter between Kelsie and Sawyer.  Their chemistry is hot, but they both are fighting it.

Review: Forbidden

For this review, I chose Forbidden, which is Book #1 in the Her British Stepbrother series, by Lauren Smith.

I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchanged for a honest review.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Kat has always been a good girl. She studies hard and never stays out too late. But when sitting in a pub on her birthday, she realizes she's a nineteen-year-old virgin who's never really lived. And she wants tonight to be the night that changes.

Then she sees him walk in. He's tall, dark, handsome, and straight out of her deepest fantasies. His voice makes her knees feel weak, and when he smiles, she imagines him doing wicked things to her in bed. From the look in his eyes, she knows he's imagining it too. So when he asks if he can walk her home, she hears herself whisper yes . . .

This book was wow!!  I kept thinking this is different then I have read before, but I could not put my finger on why it was different.  I still can't.  Maybe it is different for me because I have not read a stepbrother romance, but I do not think this is why this book was different for me.

Kat has always been a good girl.  On her birthday, she promises herself to have some fun and live a little bit while out celebrating her birthday with friends.  Kat sees Tristan walk in.  Tristan is a playboy, but there is something about Kat that he can not get out of his mind and he wants her more than anyone else.

Tristan is not technically her stepbrother yet.  They met before they even kew all the details.  Is this wrong?  I have to say no.  It is not like they grew up together as step-siblings.

This is a 3 book series.  Book #2 is called Seduction.  Book #3 is called Climax.  I can not wait to read the other 2 books in this great series.

Review: In Deep with the FBI Agent

For this review, I chose In Deep with the FBI Agent by Lynne Silver.  This is the third book in the Alpha Heroes series.

I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchanged for a honest review.

Here is a brief description from Amazon:
PASSION UNCOVEREDTo Casey, Montgomery Prep isn't just DC's most prestigious private school-it's her alma mater, the place where her fondest memories were made. It's also her current employer and the target of a dangerous cyber criminal. But even more shocking than the crime is the sexy FBI agent who comes to investigate . . .
With his six-plus frame and gym-sculpted body, no one would suspect FBI special agent Sam Cooper was once an awkward teenage computer geek-no one, that is, except Casey, the gorgeous girl who captured his heart on the first day of high school and held it for the last fourteen years. When a hunt for a hacker brings Casey back into Sam's life, his long-denied desire becomes impossible to ignore. He knows just how to make her forget the boy he was . . . and show her the man he's become.

Book 1: HOT NIGHTS WITH THE FIREMAN

Book 2: IN BED WITH THE BODYGUARD

Once again, Lynne Silver did a great job with this book.  I was hooked from page 1.  I can not believe I am going to say this, but this is my favorite book in this series (so far if there are more.....hint hint!!)  I loved book #1, Hot Nights with the Fireman, and thought that was my favorite book, but I was wrong.  I loved all the computer tech talk, the cyber hacking, and the chemistry between Sam and Casey.

Let's go back a step.  Sam and Casey met at orientation at Montgomery Prep in their Freshman year.  They sat beside one another for the entire 4 years (due to alphabetically order).  Sam had a major crush on Casey, but Casey was not so nice to him.  He left notes in her locker, etc, but did she keep them?

Lots of people say that the geeks in high school are the ones to be HOT when they grow up.  Not sure if that happened with my high school.  I have never gone to a reunion.  Now 14 years later, Sam is HOT and Casey is thinking she should had been nicer to him back in high school.

Casey is working for her alma mater, Montgomery Prep.  Sam asked her questions if they have been hacked.  There is a lot of suspense on who did it.  I loved that added into the book.  The chemistry between Sam and Casey is hot.  It was nice to see the 2 couples from the first 2 books.

I hope there are more books in this series.  I will definitely read them.

Review: Kobee Manatee: A Wild Weather Adventure

For this review, I chose Kobee Manatee: A Wild Weather Adventure by Robert Scott Thayer.

I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchanged for a honest review.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
Winner, Silver Medal in the Children's Adventure Category, 2015 Readers' Favorite International Book Awards
Finalist, Children's Educational Category, 2015 USA Best Book Awards

Loaded with surprises and exciting facts about weather, this thrilling tale follows Kobee Manatee as he travels across the mighty Atlantic Ocean into the strong Gulf Stream current . . . during hurricane season! His daring adventure begins when Kobee decides that he wants to surprise his sister Kim, who lives in the Bahamas, on her birthday. Will Kobee and his friends, Tess and Pablo, be able to travel safely from their home in Key West, Florida, through all of the wild tropical weather coming their way? Each page includes in-depth, scientific details titled “Kobee’s Fun Facts,” which expand on the weather events that the characters encounter along the way.

My son and I read this book together.  My son, Ethan, is 6.  He will be 7 in 15 days.  We both loved the illustrations.  They were so colorful and my son's attention during the entire book.  This is a great way to teach children about the weather and it's educational and fun!  Ethan likes to talk about the weather due to his older sister always giving her weather reports.

Ethan and I want to read Kobee Manatee: Heading Home to Florida, too.

Excerpt:
“I find you fascinating,” Tristan said. Their faces were so close, his lips a mere breath from hers, and it made her head spin a little with a strange, excited dizziness. His gaze dropped to her lips as his voice softened to a low murmur. “I made a promise tonight, and I won’t break it, even it if bloody well kills me.”
Kat shivered and when she spoke her voice was husky. “But after tonight?”
With a curve of his lips, Tristan leaned in half an inch closer. “After tonight…I could fuck you here, in this bed and leave you so sated you’d wouldn’t want to get up for days. The things I could do to you to make you purr, make you moan and beg… After being with me, no other man would satisfy you.” The tips of their noses brushed as he leaned a tiny bit closer. Every muscle in her body tensed in heady anticipation, and her heart thudded against her ribs so hard it hurt.
Those images his words created, his body on top of hers, his weight trapping her while he owned her in every way…why did it sound so wonderful and frightening all at the same time?
Kat’s lips parted, but no words came out at first.  He seemed like a man who before now got everything he ever wanted. She didn’t want to be another thing he got simply because he wanted it. She was a woman worth fighting for, and Kat wanted him to earn it. Her father used to say “a good man will climb to the highest branch for the ripest apple, rather than pluck the low hanging fruit.” She deserved a man who was willing to work for her.
“But not tonight,” she replied softly, almost teasing. Her heart pounded at a wild pace and her hands shook as she clenched them together.
As though it were the most natural thing in the world, he slid an arm around her waist, pulling her into his body. Her hands came up on instinct, settling on his chest, but she didn’t push him away.
“Not tonight,” he agreed. “But that one kiss at the Pickerel? It was only the beginning.” His arm around her waist tightened.
His words, so determined and confidant, made her shiver. There was no denying his confidence was appealing, but this was her sex life they were talking about. She had never been the type of girl to just give in to a guy, so why was saying yes so tempting?

Review: Al "Trunk" Mahoney, Defensive Line

For this review, I chose Al "Trunk" Mahoney, Defensive Line by Jean C. Joachim.

I received a copy of the ebook for a honest review of this book.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
When his wife walked out on him, Al “Trunk” Mahoney’s plans for the family he’d never had went up in smoke. A top-ranked defenseman in the NFL, Trunk’s success on the gridiron didn’t translate to the rest of his life. Hooking up with women was easy for the sexy lineman, but Trunk’s secret closed the door to marriage. Would the happiness he yearned for always be just beyond his reach?

Beautiful Carla Ricci, bar owner and independent woman had her choice of men. A love-‘em and leave-‘em lady, she’d made a decision that ruled out 99.9% of men for marriage. She didn’t care. Then Trunk Mahoney came along. Carla resolved to remain true to herself. Could her willpower hold indefinitely, or would she settle for an affair that would break her heart?
Caution: locker room language.

A snippet:

“Mary moved out. Left me. Took the furniture.” He spit it out, fast. It hurt less that way, like ripping off a bandage.
Carla grasped his muscular forearm, and her eyes softened. “Well, shit. I’m sorry, Trunk. What happened?”
“Damned if I know.” He took a gulp of his beer.
“Didn’t she say anything?”
“‘I’m leaving. My lawyer will be in touch. Took the furniture. You can have the house’.”

The surprises in this book was wow!!  I can not believe the surprises especially the one.  Now, you have to read the book to find out these surprises especially the one that knocked me down.  I can not think how I would of felt.  Yes, I do know.  I would be mad as hell if I was Trunk, but he took it very well.  My favorite part was when Trunk found the stone house and the memories of his mother.  Sweet and sad.

This book had everything I look for in a book.  Surprises, romance, and lots of emotions.  Very well written.  I hope there are more books in this series.

Calling All Readers!

Call all Readers!!

Today I was chatting with Jean C. Joachim on Facebook when she posted using library cards for ebooks in Overdrive.  Some of her fiction books are not in all these libraries.  It got me thinking that if her books are not all there then other authors' books are not there, too.  I know I have search for different books in the 3 libraries I have cards with and many did not come up.  Now I did not know I could recommend a book or 2 until today.  I want to see if we can help out Jean and her fellow authors by adding their books to the digital libraries we have library cards.  I also want you to post with tips on how you got more than 1 library card.  In Pa, I can share my tips with you all in a separate post.  I will post the link here for you all once I have it done.

So, let's get started.  Sign into your digital library.  When you search for an author or book and nothing comes up, you will see at the bottom to the right should be a "add titles you recommend" to click.  Click that and it takes you to books by this author/book that you can recommend.  Now when I have done this, it only lets you do 2 books.  Pick the books you want to recommend.  You can get an email if you want to be put on hold.

Now let's say that this author is someone that has books in this ebook library.  You search for that author and you don't see a book you want to read.  There is a "Additional Titles to Recommend" to click on the left side.

Thanks everyone!!
Happy Reading!

Waiting on Wednesday: In Deep with the FBI Agent

This week's Waiting on Wednesday pick for me is:
In Deep with the FBI Agent by Lynne Silver
Publication Date: January 12, 2015.

When I saw that Miss Lynne Silver wanted reviewers for this book, I knew I had to sign up.  This is the third book in the Alpha Heroes series.  I already read and reviewed book #1 (Hot Nights with the Fireman) and Book #2 (In Bed with the Bodyguard).   I have been looking forward to this book since I read book #2.   I am starting to read this book tonight.  I got an ARC from Netgalley.

I will add the description as soon as it is up on the site.

Review: How to Draw Sharks

For this review, I chose How to Draw Sharks by Arkady Roytman.  Published by Dover Publications.

I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchanged for a honest review.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:
With this step-by-step guide on how to create images of the marine world's fierce predators, kids can learn to draw creatures from the top of the ocean's food chain in just a few simple steps. This easy-to-follow book illustrates the use of basic geometric shapes to form 31 varieties of sharks, from the great white and the hammerhead to the tiger, bull, and saw sharks. Blank practice pages offer plenty of room to perfect your style.

I have not reviewed a How to Draw book, but my kids love them especially my daughter, who loves anything to do with art.  I received a digital copy of the book from Netgalley.  Now I had it emailed to my ipad's Kindle app, but it did not work.  I did not get anything.  So, I went back into Netgalley to download the file itself and I was able to review it.

I did not realize there are so many sharks.  Some of them I never heard of.  I definitely want to get this book for my 15 year old daughter, who loves to draw especially marine animals, and my youngest son.  With my son, we could draw them and then look them up on the internet to find out more about these sharks.

Each shark was broken down into 4 steps.  Being a mom to a special needs child (my daughter), I know she can do this book.

My favorites sharks are:
-White Shark
-Zebra Shark
-Bull Shark
-Wobbegong (Carpet) Shark

Review : Meditations through Coloring

For this review, I chose Meditations through Coloring and published by River Grove Books.

I requested ARC copy of the ebook through Netgalley in exchanged for a honest review.

Here is a brief description from Goodreads:

Meditation is a stress-reduction technique implemented the world over. Although the techniques vary, people from across the globe embrace meditation as an essential part of their daily practice. As scientists and psychologists explore this ancient path today, they are discovering alternatives to traditional meditation. One of these is coloring. Coloring is a low-stress activity that invokes deep focus and relaxation. The act of coloring can unlock hidden creative potential while alleviating stress by allowing the practitioner to concentrate on specific patterns and colors while letting go of any worries and concerns. This volume showcases images inspired by the ancient art form of henna tattoos, known as mehndi. Throughout the world, mehndi is incorporated into special celebrations and rites of passage, ranging from weddings to childbirth. Experienced meditation practitioners and general readers alike will enjoy.  Meditations through Coloring as they explore intricate patterns and the calming interaction of color and space on every page.

I have not reviewed an adult coloring book before, but I have read that they help to lower stress.  I received a digital copy of the book from Netgalley.  Now I am not sure if it the entire book since it has listed 96 pages.  The book started off with explaining about Meditation being a discipline, some history, and why it helps.  My favorite ones are the elephants.  I would pay this for me and my daughter.

I am only giving 4 stars since I do not know if I got the entire book or not.
